Brading is a small village situated inland on the east of the Isle of Wight. It’s a pretty place with a local shop, a couple of pubs to stop for a bite to eat and some walking routes out from the village. Brading Roman Villa is a fascinating historical site to explore and it’s under cover, a perfect rainy day activity for families or couples.
There are plenty of activities to do as you discover the heritage of this part of the island. If history is a topic of interest for you the island has plenty to offer: Carisbrooke Castle and another Roman villa in Newport, Queen Victoria’s summer home Osborne House is in East Cowes and various forts litter the southern coastline.
A stone’s throw from Brading you’ll find the pretty villages of Seaview, St Helens and Bembridge. Further south are the golden sands and promenades of Ventnor, Sandown and Shanklin. Brading is a great place to explore East Wight but that doesn’t mean that the needles and the dramatic coasts of Freshwater Bay and Brook are out of reach. Make the most of your visit and take a drive to the wild west of the isle.
