Sandown is perfect for families who love the coast; the golden sands make for lovely sunny days on the beach and with a play area just behind, you can keep little ones entertained when a winter chill sets in. The Sandown pier has a ton of amusements and arcades, including themed mini golf, so everyone can get involved and have some fun.
Although Sandown town centre is fairly quiet, along the coast there are plenty of restaurants and cafes to find something to eat. We recommend the Bandstand as it has a wonderful selection of menus throughout the day and an amazing panoramic view from Culver Downs right across the bay.
From Sandown, you can explore South Wight and West Wight. It’s a great location to get around the South and West parts of the island. In the south, it takes less than half an hour to drive to Shanklin and the journey to Ventnor isn’t much further. Just north of Sandown, you’ll find Yaverland where the beaches are slightly quieter. Further inland is Brading and more to the west you can visit the harbour villages of Bembridge, Seaview and St Helens for more dog friendly beaches and lovely places to eat.
