St Helens Cottages
St Helen’s sits across the harbour from Bembridge on the Isle of Wight. Although fairly small, in the summer the village is a picturesque place to sit outside one of the lovely restaurants to enjoy dinner and a glass of wine whilst watching local cricket take place on the village green. The restaurants are open year round but this place really comes to life in the warmer weather. Down a small street on the outskirts of the village, you’ll find a wonderful shingle and sand beach overlooked by a church half painted white. This curious church is known as St Helen’s old church at Common and it’s white paint marks it out as a shipping landmark used for centuries. Around the beach there are plenty of rockpools to explore and dogs are welcome to join in the fun all year round. This area is protected by the National Trust so expect picturesque, rugged seaside beauty.
St Helens is south of Seaview and Nettlestone so the village is an ideal spot to explore the north east of the island and even venture further afield to Cowes and Newport. As you’re on the east side of the island, head further south to enjoy the golden sands of Shanklin, Ventnor and Sandown.
