Brading is a small village situated inland on the east of the Isle of Wight. It’s a pretty place with a local shop, a couple of pubs to stop for a bite to eat and some walking routes out from the village. Brading Roman Villa is a fascinating historical site to explore and it’s under cover, a perfect rainy day activity for families or couples.
There are plenty of activities to do as you discover the heritage of this part of the island. If history is a topic of interest for you the island has plenty to offer: Carisbrooke Castle and another Roman villa in Newport, Queen Victoria’s summer home Osborne House is in East Cowes and various forts litter the southern coastline.
A stone’s throw from Brading you’ll find the pretty villages of Seaview, St Helens and Bembridge. Further south are the golden sands and promenades of Ventnor, Sandown and Shanklin. Brading is a great place to explore East Wight but that doesn’t mean that the needles and the dramatic coasts of Freshwater Bay and Brook are out of reach.
