KingThis charming two bedroom cottage is situated in the pretty coastal village of Gurnard, just outside Cowes, home to some spectacular Solent views and a prime location to watch the many sailing events that take place on the Island. Your nearest beach is a mixture of pebbles and shingle, lined with an eclectic mix of beach huts and chalets and come the evening, you can see some of the finest sunsets in the UK.
The open plan living-room with kitchen and dining areas is a light and spacious room, with a door leading out to the rear patio and garden beyond. The lawned area is narrow but long, with far reaching sea views. There is a separate snug to the front of the cottage with a sofa and television, an ideal place for the kids to enjoy a film whilst you relax with a glass of wine in the garden, savouring the view. On the first floor there are two bedrooms; a double with stunning sea views and a twin room, as well as the family bathroom with a bath and fitted shower.
Although there is no direct beach access from the property, a short stroll will take you to the nearby beach and to Gurnard Marsh, which is ideal for crabbing.
There are some great choices of places to eat out in Gurnard, including Gurnard Press artisan coffee shop with home-made food in the village. A short drive or a ten minute walk from Solent View Cottage, is The Woodvale pub, located on the seafront and serving food all day - dine inside or if the weather permits, enjoy your meal whilst overlooking the sea and finally, The Portland Inn, a lovely village pub serving delicious food and good company.
Cowes is within walking distance of Gurnard beach, it’s approximately a half an hour level walk along the promenade, also ideal for cycling; home to the biggest sailing regatta in the world and a vibrant town centre with an abundance of shops, cafes and restaurants. A short trip on the chain ferry from Cowes you can access East Cowes, home to Osborne House (Queen Victoria’s seaside residence).
The beautiful Isle of Wight has so much to offer, from the traditional seaside holiday days out with picnics on the beaches, paddling and sandcastle building to castle exploring. Take a ride on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway and take in the beautiful countryside from one of the restored Edwardian or Victorian carriages - you may even spot a red squirrel or two! For those wanting to explore on foot pack your boots and pick up one of the many paths that cover the island - one of our favourites is the Tennyson Down trail which will give you some amazing views of the iconic Needles. With plenty to do within a short distance by car or by foot from Solent View Cottage and easy access to the rest of the Island's attractions, this makes for a wonderful holiday destination on the Isle of Wight.
