KingThis gorgeous terraced cottage, situated in the Conservation Area of the old town of Cowes, is just a few minutes walk from the centre of town, offering the perfect family holiday destination for those wanting a tranquil and stylish property with many restaurants and shops just a stone’s throw away. Within walking distance from the passenger ferry from Southampton and rail links to London in two hours, guests can enjoy a stay at Winkle Cottage car-free and with easy access to all the local amenities on foot. The vibrant pedestrianised high street is a great place to sit at one of the pavement cafes and soak up the atmosphere of this famous sailing town.
Parking permits can be purchased from the Isle of Wight Council website.
The impressive Princes Parade promenade starts in Cowes and continues along to Gurnard beach. This is a wonderful place to take the little ones for a stroll looking out across the busy sailing activity in the Solent, or an easy bike or scooter ride for an ice cream at The Water’s Edge beach cafe in Gurnard, famous for its sunsets. There is also a lovely park that will keep the kids entertained for hours.
A baby is welcome but please note that space is limited and a travel cot won't fit in the twin room, so will have to go in the double room.
The cottage is cosy and inviting with an open plan sitting-room with dining-area on the ground floor and a hallway through to the well-equipped kitchen. A door from here leads out to a wonderful walled patio cottage garden, slightly raised with several steps to it, gorgeous planting and outdoor seating making it the perfect setting for a glass of wine before heading out to dinner. There are two bedrooms on the first floor, a spacious double with king-sized bed and a twin room. There is a family shower-room on the first floor.
Just around the corner from Winkle Cottage is the North House Restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, you really need go no further than this! A superbly stylish interior with a relaxed atmosphere and full of character, the food is highly recommended, especially the locally-caught seafood. The peaceful rear terrace is just the place to enjoy afternoon tea after a day sightseeing. Winkle Cottage is a little gem that will not disappoint.
