The sailing club at Gurnard is particularly popular with dinghy sailors and Gurnard Dinghy Week attracts hundreds of visitors to the town at the end of July. Being only 5 minutes by car or 30 minutes on foot from Cowes, makes Gurnard a great spot to stay if you’re visiting for Cowes Week in August. Staying in a self catering cottage doesn’t mean you have to cook, there are plenty of wonderful places in the town to eat and drink. The Little Gloster restaurant is very popular with locals and visitors alike, serving an impressive breakfast menu. There’s also the Waters Edge cafe on the beach front, ideal for beach bums who want to spend as much time as possible on the sand. For great views across Gurnard Bay while you eat, visit the Woodvale pub, welcoming to families and serving throughout the day. There’s also plenty of local produce in the village’s grocery store so make the most of the wonderful kitchen facilities on offer and have a go at cooking some new recipes.
To the west of Gurnard is Yarmouth, a pretty harbour town to explore, or hop on the ferry and head to Lymington for an exciting day out on the mainland. In between Yarmouth and Gurnard is the Hamstead Heritage coast, a lovely spot for walkers to wander the wilds of the isle. Further south from Gurnard is Newport, the largest town on the island, a shopping hotspot with some upcoming modern restaurants offering up exciting new cooking styles for you to try.
