KingA perfect retreat for a couple to relax, The Chocolate House is a beautifully renovated 18th Century cottage set in iconic Chapel Street in Penzance. Although located close to the heart of the town, it is quiet and tranquil. Its modern, well-equipped facilities combine historic character and modern convenience.
Open the door and step inside the spacious open plan sitting-room with a separate dining-area. The modern, well-equipped kitchen is lit by a large skylight. Steep stairs lead up to the double bedroom and a bright snug which gives you access to the roof terrace, with limited views of Penzance harbour and the sea beyond.
Said to be originally occupied by seafarers and their families, over time the property has also been a barber shop and a Post Office as well as a confectioner when it became known as The Chocolate House. The shop part was in what is now the living area and a cafe was on the first floor. With its Rococo style fascia and ornate oval sign (currently removed for repair) swinging proudly above the pillar box red postbox below, expect many a visitor being photographed outside one of Chapel Street's most famous buildings…. And now, it is available for you and a lucky guest to stay in the tasteful modern surroundings with all the charm and history of a bygone age.
It is ideally located in one of the oldest and most historic parts of Penzance with its variety of fine buildings of unique character, offering an eclectic mix of pubs, restaurants, bookshops, treasure-filled artisan and vintage shops, and the eye-catching Egyptian House. The cottage is within a short walking distance of the promenade, the art-deco Jubilee swimming pool and geothermal pool, Penlee Art Gallery and Museum, Morrab Gardens and Penlee Park with its open air theatre.
Penzance is perfectly situated for touring the West Cornwall peninsula - coastal path and moorland walks, stunning beaches, coves and gardens, St Michael's Mount, the clifftop Minack Theatre, Land's End, St Ives with beaches and its Tate gallery, and much more. The cottage is a short walk from the railway and bus stations, and there are good local public transport links. Whilst a car parking space is available, a car is not essential.
