TwinIf you are looking for a holiday retreat a short stroll from the delights of Penzance, yet just a car journey away from St Ives, Mousehole and all that far west Cornwall has to offer, then look no further. Coulsons Retreat is on the ground floor in a gated mews of pretty Georgian town houses with beaches, shops and a great selection of eateries close by. This is a great choice if you are looking for a car-free getaway.
Stepping through the communal front door and into the flat, the hallway leads to the sitting-room where you can relax on the comfy sofas in front of the 50" TV. A wood-burner effect electric stove will keep you warm during cooler months. The kitchen/diner is a light and bright room with everything you will need for cooking a holiday meal. The two bedrooms are comfortably furnished, the double with a five-foot king-size bed and the twin room with two three-foot singles, perfect for either children or adults. Both rooms have the benefit of TVs that connect to BBC iPlayer. The modern shower-room is ideal for washing salty toes after a day on the beach.
Outside a secluded courtyard is a lovely place for al fresco dining or perhaps a quiet read. Tranquil Morrab Gardens is next door with a Victorian bandstand and tropical vegetation which overhangs the courtyard. Coulsons Retreat is a delightful holiday bolthole and a lovely place for a getaway at any time of year and short breaks may be available at other times of the year by calling/checking with the Booking Office.
Penzance is the beating heart of West Cornwall, with a colourful selection of shops, eateries and galleries. A promenade runs for miles along the seafront, and this is a great place to take in the sea views, perhaps with an ice cream! To the west, Newlyn is a short walk away, a great place to find some Cornish paintings or perhaps enjoy a meal in one of many restaurants and cafes.
In the opposite direction, St Michael's Mount sits out in Mount's Bay, a magical castle reached either by a causeway when the tide is low or by ferryboat at high tide. The pretty village of Marazion is worth a look whilst you are here. If you decide to travel further afield why not take the train from St Erth to St Ives, a glorious journey with stunning views over the Atlantic. St Ives is a gorgeous seaside town with cobbled streets and pretty cottages. Artists have been drawn to the effervescent light here for hundreds of years and the Tate Gallery stands proudly overlooking Porthmeor beach, a place which should definitely be on your "to do" list. However you plan to spend your days you will look forward to returning to your holiday abode, Coulsons Retreat.
