Zip and linkOnce inside you will be enveloped in the essence of a Yorkshire country cottage with beams, hand hewn staircase, walls which have been carefully renovated to ensure the traditional features are enhanced and views from every window. The spacious kitchen has all you need and pride of place is taken by the large farmhouse table. The sitting-room has a well-loved sofa and armchairs to put your feet up and ease yourself into the countryside pace of life.
The two tranquil bedrooms both have views over the garden and hills, one has a king-size bed and an extra bed if you wish to use it, please ask when booking. The second bedroom has a super-king size 'zip and link' bed which can also be used as a twin. Enjoy a long soak in the bath to soothe your tired legs after a day on the Dales in the cottage bathroom, which also has a pretty little original fireplace (not used) giving a nod to the age of the farmhouse and adds to the charm.
Outdoors there is a lovely garden, sheltered by the hills, where you can take morning coffee or a sundowner later in the day. The children will love the climbing frame, swing and watching for the owls, pheasants and other birds and wildlife, you may even see the local hedgehog who visits.
There is a large area where you can park, be aware the lane down to Joe House is uneven and not suitable for low slung cars.
Joe House sits one mile outside Gunnerside, a pretty village set on the River Swale, it has a pub which serves local food and a tearoom. Muker is close by with its summer fair, tearoom, pub and local crafts. Walking, hiking and cycling routes are aplenty and you will experience the most amazing scenery so get your cameras at the ready as Swaledale is a photographer's dream. Wain Wath Force, Aysgarth Falls and Kisdon Force are waterfalls where you will also find walking trails and refreshing swimming spots. Reeth sits atop a hill and has shops, a hotel and a pub. Richmond is a large market town with a wide range of shops, galleries, restaurants and a castle with far ranging views over the countryside. The smaller town of Hawes is worth visiting, take a trip to the Wensleydale Creamery of Wallace and Gromit fame and stock up on delicious cheeses for your picnics in the hills. For the history lovers, Castle Bolton is where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned and is steeped in history. Whatever you enjoy the Yorkshire Dales is sure to deliver.
