KingLocated in one of the most sought-after elevated positions in the fishing village of St Mawes and enjoying spectacular views, you will find a very special welcome at Rose Cottage. This beautifully presented holiday home, set over three floors, could be the perfect retreat for your next Cornish getaway whether coming with family or friends, and is a delight whatever the time of the year.
Tucked away at the end of a charming terrace and down a flight of stone steps (it is worth it for the views), step over the threshold of this stunning house to find spacious rooms with high ceilings and every room filled with that wonderful light you only find close to the coast. This very special cottage has been thoughtfully styled and furnished with your comfort in mind, and once you've discovered this little gem, you may fall a little bit in love.
Spend time on the large dining terrace enjoying good food and conversation whilst watching the ever-changing colours of the Cornish sea and skies, this will probably become your favourite spot as you watch the boats go by and the sea birds fly, and if you are staying during one of the two St Mawes Regatta weeks you can walk down to the village to enjoy the sail boats up close or if you prefer to stay put, simply sit back on your wonderful terrace with a bird's eye view, binoculars optional.
The open plan living area on the ground floor offers guests a relaxing space with a gorgeous sofa and comfy chairs, sit and share stories of your adventures and plans for the next day. Choose a book from the owner's library and try not to be distracted by the view, especially if you find the window seat free! For the cooks in the party, the kitchen will not disappoint with a range cooker and everything you need to cook up a feast, dine together more formerly in the adjacent dining-area or why not take your plates outside, let's be honest, with a view like that, you might just eat every meal outside!
One of the three bedrooms is located on the lower ground floor, accessed externally down a few stone steps, this lovely en suite room has a king-size bed and is perfect for those seeking a retreat at the end of the day. Open the French doors wide to enjoy the views across the garden to the sea beyond. This bedroom has a fabulous en suite shower-room with a very spacious shower cubicle big enough for two.
Back in the main house, take the stairs to the first floor where you will find the other two bedrooms. The first is a large double aspect bedroom flooded with light where sea views can be seen from the comfort of your bed, open up the curtains, lie back and enjoy the view, you are on holiday. Bedroom three is also on this floor, the triple bunk-bed offers flexibility for a party of up to six guests, either the comfy double bed on the bottom or for the young ones, climb the wooden ladder to the top bunk single bed. These two bedrooms share the family bathroom, which is located on the half landing and accessed via a small flight of steps. There is a further cloakroom on the ground floor.
Outside the beautiful gardens with spectacular views have been planted to offer shade to the visitor on a hot sunny day, find the swing seat and sit with a book or maybe take a quiet moment alone for yourself.
St Mawes is a much sought-after village with a vibrant harbour and great selection of cafes, waterside restaurants and a fabulous deli. In a location such as this you may never need to take your car out and spend your blissful days enjoying everything on your doorstep. Summers beach is a short stroll away, ideal for families and paddle boarders, or perhaps you'd prefer to hire a kayak from the harbour and explore the crystal-clear waters around the coast. The energetic should climb the hill to St Mawes Castle and marvel at the stunning panoramic views across the Carrick Roads or perhaps pick up the coast path which leads to St Just In Roseland and the pretty 13th Century Church described by John Betjeman as 'to many people the most beautiful churchyard on earth', the Mediterranean gardens at the church are a sheer delight.
From the harbourside the passenger ferry plies the waters to the maritime town of Falmouth, with a great selection of eclectic shops and a fabulous museum. You can also catch the smaller ferry to lesser-known Place Manor where you can explore hidden creeks and the beautiful coastline around St Anthony headland. Pack up a picnic and stop off at one of the many secluded coves for lunch and a swim. Portscatho is a short car ride away, a gorgeous village with the most beautiful beaches and the Hidden Hut where guests sit side by side on wooden benches and enjoy the freshest of local produce (bookings are essential for feast nights).
Further afield The Lost Gardens of Heligan are fabulous, lost in time since WWI, discovered 30 years ago and now returned to their former glory or perhaps visit the mighty biomes of the Eden Project, quite spectacular and worthy of a day out. Horticulturists will be spoilt for choice with the gardens of Trelissick, Trebah and Durgan all within a short drive. Caerhays Castle has a world-famous magnolia collection and if you are lucky enough to visit in spring, this is one not to miss.
However you plan to spend your precious holiday time, Rose Cottage has all you need for a fabulous Cornish getaway.
