Hartland is a place of breathtaking natural beauty and an outdoor enthusiasts' dream. Whether you are looking for a stress-free relaxing getaway or a family holiday full of adventure, Bay Tree Cottage has it all and even your four-legged friend will be most welcome.
Situated in the centre of the village, ideally placed on the main street with local shops, cafes and inns close at hand, Bay Tree Cottage is blessed with private parking just 25 yards away, a rare find in Hartland and peace of mind during your holiday. From the moment you step over the threshold of this beautifully renovated Victorian home you will be captivated. Contemporary furnishings marry seamlessly with the charming interiors, giving a nod to the creative talent of the owners. The elegant sitting-room with high ceilings and sash windows is decorated in soft pastel shades, perfect for relaxing after a busy day and the Smart TV will keep everyone entertained. The dining-area sits next to the kitchen and guests can gather around the pine farmhouse table and chat about the day ahead. The kitchen has everything you will need to create a holiday feast and a gorgeous open fireplace with a wood-burner effect electric stove adds character to this light and homely room. Being a home-from-home there is also a handy side entrance into a utility-room where you will find the washing machine and space for storing your beach equipment or muddy walking boots. This room leads through to the kitchen.
The beautifully crafted staircase leads to the pretty bedrooms, with luxury linens and super comfy beds. The double bedroom with a king-size bed is a dream, spacious and beautifully furnished, this room is simply charming. The pretty twin bedroom has three-foot beds, ideal for either children or adults. The luxurious family shower-room is also on this floor with a large shower for washing salty toes after a beach day.
Outside, the south-facing garden lends itself perfectly to al fresco dining. From your first morning coffee, to cocktails as the sun sets, you will want to spend every moment in this secluded spot. An elevated lawned area sits above the gravelled patio, where you can sit all day in peace and quiet. Bay Tree Cottage has everything you could wish for and more.
When you hear the words 'National Landscapes' you know you have arrived somewhere very special, and Hartland is no exception. The village is a hidden gem, unspoilt and steeped in history. Local shops include an eclectic assortment of galleries and potteries, inspired by the gorgeous surrounding countryside and coastline and you'll find a good selection of cafes, restaurants and inns here, ideal if the chef wants a night off cooking. The local bakery will keep you supplied with fresh bread and if you are lucky enough to be visiting on the first Sunday each month, the Hartland Farmers Market is a great place to stock up on all things local.
Two miles away, the north Devon coast is waiting to be discovered. Hartland Quay is a pretty cove where swimmers can take advantage of the sheltered waters. Sunny days can be spent lounging in the sun, building sandcastles and rock pooling, and in wilder weather watch the dramatic seascape as the Atlantic rollers crash over the rocks. Whilst you are here, take a look at the Shipwreck and Smuggling Museum where you can learn about four centuries of seafaring history. Walk along the coast to Hartland Point and Grade II Listed Hartland Lighthouse, renowned for its dramatic location overlooking the Bristol Channel and Atlantic towards Lundy Island.
If you decide to head out in the car, Hartland Abbey is a stunning historic house with beautifully tendered gardens, woodland trails and a beach walk. The pretty village of Clovelly is a short drive away with steep cobbled streets leading to the picturesque harbour, a day spent here will be memorable.
Perhaps, the stunning beaches of Bude (15 miles) and Westward Ho! (14 miles) are calling? Their water sports and tidal sea pools offering fun for the whole family.
