Returning to the portfolio for 2024 following a break in 2023

You've ambled your way through the leafy lanes and lush green Cornish countryside, passing hedgerows bursting in a kaleidoscope of colour and breathed in the fresh, salty air when, like a mirage, the dream becomes reality and your eyes fall on Homeleigh.

This charming cottage is surrounded by verdant countryside with views across fields in which wildlife abounds including the occasional wild deer. Set in an idyllic location, it really is the perfect base from which to explore Cornwall whichever direction you may wish to take. Only a five minute drive to the large sandy beach of Perranporth or the charming cove of St Agnes, you are spoilt for choice of beaches.

Step from the south-facing patio into the large sunny conservatory/porch and take a moment to draw breath. This leads into the beautiful kitchen/dining-room, which is most definitely the hub of Homeleigh. The cottage kitchen is perfect for any size party, it can be ever so romantic for a meal for two yet still has plenty of space for a family breakfast for four, making sure everyone is well fuelled before heading out for a fun filled day exploring the north Cornwall coast. There is also a roomy separate utility-room.

The cosy sitting-room has a large comfy sofa and armchairs around a fabulous wood-burning stove, enjoy watching the flickering flames with a hot chocolate in hand while resting your weary limbs. There is oodles of space to relax at Homeleigh, the large conservatory/porch is south-facing so why not relax a while with a cup of tea and enjoy watching the wildlife in the sunshine.

Take the open-tread stairs up to the first floor where you will find the two pretty bedrooms and family bathroom. The main bedroom is a double and the other is 'zip and link', and can be made up either as two-foot six-inch twins or a king-size bed, you choose! Both bedrooms have an engaging view, one over the countryside, and the other looking out over the front gardens.

The beautiful gardens are bordered by Cornish 'hedges' (beautiful granite walls softened with pretty planting). The flat front lawn is a great area for children to play. There is a patio area with a table and seating and is a perfect spot for a special lunch or simply enjoying the sunset with a glass of wine.

There is a cabin at the far side of the garden, facing away from the garden and cottage, which is occasionally used by the owner with their own separate entrance.

There are plenty of walks from your doorstep, only a 15 minute (ish) walk along a pretty footpath you will find the great 16th Century local pub at Mithian which is certainly worth a visit. You really do have the best of both worlds as amidst this restful sanctuary, buzzing St Agnes is just a few miles distant and only half a mile to the closest pub. A small, vibrant town crammed with boutique-style shops, laid-back cafes, bistros and restaurants as well as a traditional butcher and deli, to satisfy all those holiday cravings. If you don't fancy driving, there are good local bus routes from the end of the lane at Homeleigh.

Nature lovers and ramblers are in for a real treat with an abundance of coastal and countryside walks literally on the doorstep - don those walking boots, brandish the binoculars and be ready to hunt out the many rare and exotic species of flora and fauna that flourish in the hedgerows and along the shorelines. For an exciting and enthralling day trip, venture south to The Lost Gardens of Heligan or the Eden Project, home to the largest rainforest in captivity, a tropical oasis in the heart of Cornwall's lost China Clay wilderness. Events, exhibitions, activities and even outdoor concerts are held throughout the year so be sure to check at the time of your visit if you fancy a bit of celeb spotting.

Sun-worshippers, water babies and rockpool revellers could easily choose a different seaside location every day - from fabulous, family-friendly Trevaunance Cove to the stunning sandy beaches at Perranporth Beach, Mawgan Porth and Porthtowan to name just a few. Budding bodyboarders and surfers (both the standing up and lying down ones) may feel the need for an invigorating shake up, so throw caution to the wind and sign up with one of the many surf schools with fully qualified instructors providing safe and exhilarating lessons for all abilities.

With all this activity, taste buds will need to be tickled and thirst quenched - fortunately, there are many watering holes in the area that serve up the most delicious fresh fare from 'just off the boat' fish to cleverly crimped pasties, craft ales, local wines and spirits all guaranteed to replenish the most depleted of energy levels. An afternoon wouldn't be complete without a Cornish cream tea indulgence, or even two, and remember that when in Cornwall, cream always rises to the top so the jam always goes first! For a more 'fine-dining' experience, a trip to the exquisite Rick Stein's seafood restaurant just along the north coast at the pretty, traditional fishing village of Padstow may be the ultimate treat - naturally, it's very popular, especially in the summer months, so be sure to make a reservation in advance to avoid any disappointment and hunger pangs!
