Bunk-bedsNestled in a tucked away quiet lane amidst the vibrant harbour town of Newlyn, this charming, cosy terraced cottage offers a perfect retreat for four lucky guests. Lovingly updated, Bodillys Cottage blends timeless character with all the modern comforts needed to enjoy your stay in this enchanting area. This traditional terraced property is typical of the area which is steeped in maritime history and leads directly on foot to the harbour.
Once inside this sweet abode, you find a space designed for relaxing after exploring Newlyn's bustling harbour and quaint streets. An open plan living area welcomes you with a wood-burning stove and rustic beams line the ceilings, so sink back into the deep filled sofa and relax into your holiday. A compact dining-area sits beside the fully equipped kitchen, which has all the modern appliances (including an air-fryer) you will need to cook up a Cornish feast.
Head up the narrow staircase, where two charming bedrooms await, one with a sumptuous king-size bed and a view that overlooks the narrow lane below, and the second bedroom has bunk-beds. A cleverly designed small modern shower-room between the two provides the ideal spot to wash away the day's adventures.
Step outside to discover a private terraced garden, (a rare feature in these cottages) where you will find a raised courtyard with a charcoal barbecue, the easiest way to cook and devour the freshest of fish purchased locally a short distance from your doorstep. Whether sipping morning coffee or enjoying a sunset meal, the outdoor space is a delightful extension of this cottage's charm.
Bodillys Cottage is a peaceful haven amidst the lovely harbour life and offers a mix of seclusion and accessibility for your coastal getaway. Parking for this cottage is in the long stay public car park situated a few minutes' walk away. Some free off-street parking may also be available.
As one of the UK's busiest fishing ports Newlyn offers an unparallelled selection of seafood, freshly landed each day. Cooking and buying fish in Newlyn is a quintessential coastal experience and local fishmongers are happy to share their cooking tips to help you with your purchase. Early risers can watch the traditional fishing boats unload the huge variety of fish. Grab a coffee, stroll the harbour and listen to the rich history of fishermen's tales, the calls of the seagulls overhead and the rumbling of the engines as they come back into harbour.
The history of Newlyn is also tied to its role as a haven for artists. The Newlyn School of Art promotes the areas artistic tradition and is inspired by the legacy of the original local painters.
Within walking distance, you will find many award-winning eateries and the film house and cafe set in a converted fish warehouse.
Once settled in this beautiful part of the country you are so very well placed to explore. The pretty village of Mousehole is just two miles away, with its smugglers' tales and cobbled streets and if visiting during the festive season the annual community light display is a huge attraction.
Stretching from Newlyn to Marazion, the seafront path offers stunning views of Mount's Bay and St Michael's Mount. Stop, take a dip in the famous Art Deco Jubilee geothermal pool in Penzance, a beloved local landmark offering a unique chance to soothe yourself in the naturally heated waters. This area combines relaxation, history and makes it a must visit destination when holidaying in west Cornwall.
