Newton Ferrers’ prime location on the bank of the Yealm Estuary means you’ll find plenty of wildlife nestled amongst the trees and by the waterside: kingfishers, egrets and herons are often spotted around the water. And the quiet beaches are tranquil spots to relax with a good book for an afternoon.
The heart of the village is the Dolphin Inn, a traditional village pub with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Newton Ferrers is an unspoilt haven on the south Devon coast. An idyllic creekside village reminiscent of Swallows and Amazons. Each year people flock to Newton Ferrers for the River Yealm regatta, a wonderful sailing event to enjoy in the sunshine.
A prime location for those who enjoy exploring the great outdoors. You can take a water taxi from the village to the SW coastal path ready to take in the breathtaking views of the Devonshire coastline whilst enjoying the pretty coves and creeks along the way. Or bring a kayak or canoe and explore the estuary.
The waters here remain very calm throughout the year so conditions are ideal for beginners and seasoned paddlers alike. Sailing is also very popular here, you could try some classes with the local sailing school as an exciting activity to keep the kids busy. When the tide is low you can cross the creek between Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers on foot. A lovely short walk to get you out of the house and exploring the local area.
For a day out, head to Plymouth. Only 10 miles west of Newton Ferrers, Plymouth has shops and restaurants to spend your day (and your money), theatre shows to excite and wow and the National Marine Aquarium. Perfect for a rainy day. You might want to visit the iconic Plymouth Hoe for amazing views of the Plymouth Sound and some classic snaps to show off to your friends and family when you return from your holiday.
