Looe Cottages
With a beach, harbour and an island off the coast, Looe really does tick all the boxes for your holiday on the coast. A holiday cottage in Looe need not be all about the beach, with plenty of places to eat, shops, and coastal and riverside walks to be discovered around the town. Read more
Looe is built around an active harbour home to a large fishing fleet and sailing boats. There are plenty of boats and kayaks to hire, or you can take a tour on a glass bottomed boat around Looe Island or further afield to Polperro. If that’s not quite your bag, perch along the harbour and spend a couple of hours fishing crabs.
East Looe is home to a large family friendly beach with safe swimming and lots of soft sand for building sandcastles. It’s also where you’ll find the majority of Looe’s cafés, restaurants, pubs, shops and fish and chip shops serving fish directly from the fishing fleet.
West Looe is quieter and more laid-back and home to Nelson the seal, a bronze sculpture on Pennyland Rocks at the entrance to Looe harbour, in memory of a rather popular one-eyed seal who made Looe his home. The pebbly beach offers views over Looe Island, and is perfect for snorkelling at high tide. At low tide, scour rock pools with your crabbing line and fishing nets.
Looe Island, also know as St George’s Island, is a nature reserve managed by the Cornwall Wildlife Trust and is home to seals, sea birds and has plenty of wild meadows. The island can be visited in the summer months depending on tides and the weather, and guided walks can be arranged and but will need booking in advance.
Around Looe there are plenty of other places to visit. To the west, start with Talland Bay and Polperro, and if you travel just a bit further you can catch the foot ferry across from Polruan to Fowey, one of the best ways to arrive at this beautiful town. To the east, Seaton beach is not far, and past Portwrinkle is the stunning Rame Peninsula, which we can’t recommend enough.
A little further afield, but still all within an hour’s drive, you have the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth and the National Trust’s Lanhydrock Estate.
With so much to discover, we think you’ll really enjoy your holiday in Looe. Find yourself the perfect holiday cottage to compliment a holiday you’ll remember.
