TwinSet in a quayside location, in the heart of the unspoilt historic fishing village of Polruan, is this delightful holiday haven boasting wonderful views across the glistening waters of the Fowey estuary over to the popular town of Fowey. Immerse yourself in village life from this plum location with two local pubs, a cafe, bakery, village shop and the little tidal beach right on your doorstep. It's the place to kick back and watch the comings and goings along the water or marvel at the boats and sailing ships in the neighbouring working boatyard.
Step inside and a warm coastal welcome awaits with calm and relaxing interiors to set you right into holiday mode. The sitting-room takes centre stage, showcasing those fabulous views and the warm glow of the wood-burner makes this an ideal retreat for those out-of-season breaks. The galley kitchen is just what you would expect with the maritime heritage that surrounds, but with a great food and drink offering on both sides of the estuary, you would be forgiven for only using it to boil the kettle or chill the wine.
Ascend the stairs at Bertie's to the two surprisingly spacious bedrooms and the family shower-room, with a large shower enclosure ready to set you up for the day ahead.
Although there is no dedicated outdoor space, owing to the plum waterside location there are a number of seating spots along the quayside where you can perch and watch the world go by.
Polruan is a real treasure, with its narrow streets and traditional cottages clinging to the hillside. Steeped in maritime history and surrounded by natural beauty, the Fowey estuary is a protected landscape and the best way to explore is on foot, so don't forget your walking boots. The renowned Hall Walk is a must, as is the coastal path to the beautifully secluded Lantic Bay and the fishing village of Polperro, your pampered pooches will love it.
Hop on the passenger ferry across to Fowey to mosey around the independent shops and galleries, stopping off for some refreshment at one of the waterside eateries. Join a boat trip from the quay or you may prefer to head up the estuary by paddleboard or kayak.
If Cornish heritage is on the agenda, the remains of Polruan Blockhouse and St Saviour's Church provide a glimpse of Polruan's past, along with some pretty spectacular views. And a little further afield you will discover Cornwall's largest historic house, Lanhydrock (National Trust), set within almost 1000 acres of gardens, woodland and parkland some of which you can explore on two wheels along a network of cycle trails.
The nearby fishing town of Looe, the setting of the TV programme 'Beyond Paradise' will delight all ages. Full of traditional seaside charm, you can try your luck at crab, mackerel and deep sea shark fishing or pop over to Looe Island, now a protected nature reserve and if gardening is your thing The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan will delight.
