TwinTucked away in a rural corner of west Dorset you will find The Granary; a single-storey cottage with a shared two acre woodland and wildflower meadow to while away holiday days in. Within close proximity to the World Heritage Jurassic Coast and surrounded by wonderful countryside, you will be hard pressed to find a more idyllic location.
As soon as you step through the door of this charming cottage you will feel right at home. It is wonderfully bright and exudes calmness. The living, dining and kitchen space is open plan so you can all enjoy time together, including the family pooches. Keen cooks will be delighted with how well-equipped the kitchen is. For out-of-season breaks there is a cosy wood-burner effect electric stove, so you can curl up on the sofa and relax (perhaps with a comforting slice of Dorset apple cake?).
There are two bedrooms at The Granary; the first being a spacious room with king-size bed and boasting an en suite bathroom. The second bedroom has twin beds, giving great flexibility for families. Completing the space is a shower-room meaning each bedroom has use of its own bath/shower-room. Being all on one level, The Granary will be well suited to guests with limited mobility but the floor does slope slightly in the hallway to the main bedroom.
Directly in front of the cottage is your west-facing private terrace, which is a glorious spot to catch some evening rays. Beyond the terrace there is a lawn and this can be made fully enclosed, so children and dogs can happily explore this area safely.
Next door to The Granary is another cottage, The Dairy (5682), so for groups of up to eight guests booking both properties offers a fantastic set-up. The front gardens are separated by a wire fence but there is a gate at the end that can be opened. When booking the properties individually there is a good level of privacy as there is a trellis between the two patios.
A unique feature of this property is access to a two acre woodland and wildflower area (please take care as there is an open stream running through), just beyond the owners' farmhouse. Your four-legged friends will think they have landed in doggy heaven! The owners haven't forgotten their human guests though and there are a number of thoughtfully placed benches where you can sit and take in the tranquil surroundings. This area is shared with guests staying at The Dairy.
Whetley Farm lies just south of the village of Mosterton that has a friendly local pub and handy shop selling essentials. A short drive away is the market town of Beaminster, full of honey-coloured stone buildings and offering a number of eateries; Brassica and The Ollerod are two favourites.
An essential on your west Dorset holiday is to visit the Jurassic Coast - this stretch of coastline offers something for everyone, whether you are a sunbather or a cliff-top hiker. Head to West Bay to gaze at the golden cliffs or for building sandcastles, head to Lyme Regis and finish off your day eating seafood on the beach. This special part of the county is a dreamy holiday destination you are sure to want to come back to.
