Quay House

Just over a mile from some of Pembrokeshire's most glorious beaches, soak up the enchanting estuary, sea and mountain views from spectacular Quay House, a fabulously renovated, semi-detached, 19th Century cottage, which sits on the quayside in the quaint characterful hamlet of Lower Town. You really appreciate the magnificent beauty of the surroundings through the floor to ceiling glass where the spectacular vista, harbour views and the mountains may be enjoyed. There's access from here to the front decking area, adorned with fragrant wisteria in the summer, the perfect spot to watch the ebb and flow of the tide, fishermen's boats and the slow, peaceful everyday life on the quay, where fish rise and jump and where children love to catch crabs with bacon on their fishing lines.

Stroll to the cafe for breakfast or a coffee and a cake or while away glorious time out overlooking the never-ending sea beyond. Just around the corner is the Ship Inn, dating back to 1780s, a traditional fisherman's pub with log-burner. Film buffs will be keen to learn that Quay House was used during the filming of Under Milk Wood, starring Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, whilst the harbour was used in the film Moby Dick and photos of both films and actors are on display in the Ship Inn.

Sit in the glow of the cosy wood-burner in the second charming sitting-room which overlooks the harbour. In addition, get cosy in the snug, where you'll find lots of reading material. A most unusual feature is found in the cottage, peek through a glass wall into a small enclosed 'fernery', which has a striking orange wall and a tiny stream trickling across a pebbled floor.

When it's time for bed after a day in the fresh sea air, climb the stairs to the characterful first floor which separates into two wings. There are two well presented bedrooms to the front, one with harbour views, a bathroom with a large shower cubicle, and at the rear a further two gorgeous bedrooms, with additional shower-room. Be lulled to sleep by the gentle sound of the water lapping on the shore. The attractive garden areas are a joy. Perfect for a sundowner on a warm summer's night.
