TwinFor those seeking a very special country retreat that's oh-so-close to the crystal clear waters and sheltered beaches of Cornwall's south coast, then look no further than Southleigh House. Nestled at the end of a country lane with peace and tranquility in abundance, this much loved home is packed full of charm and character and has many wonderful features. With a large garden, two toasty wood-burners, plenty of space for relaxing and entertaining, dog friendly and within walking distance of the world renowned Eden Project, this is a very special place where cherished holiday memories will be created and once here, we are sure you won't want to leave.
Start your day with holiday breakfasts served up in the country-style kitchen/dining-room, overlooking the garden. Complete with walk-in pantry and a beautiful Aga (an electric cooker is also provided) it is the epitome of country living and on warmer days you may prefer to take a leisurely breakfast on the terrace, soaking up the morning sunshine, watching the bird and wildlife come and go; it might delay your plans for the day but hey, chill out, you are on holiday. The conservatory takes pride of place at the front of the house, a fabulous room that really brings the outside in, with a large dining-table and snuggly sofas surrounding that all-important wood-burner and if you want some quiet time, why not curl up with a good book in the sitting-room, there's quite a selection on offer.
There are four lovely bedrooms to choose from, all decorated with a romantic feel and beds dressed in luscious linens and charming bedspreads to ensure a blissful night's sleep.
The garden is an absolute joy, providing lots of al fresco space for you all to spread out, with carefully considered 'wild garden' areas to encourage wild and birdlife. You are sure to while away many an hour on the sunny terrace, have adventures in the wooded area, enjoy ball games on the lawn, pick fresh vegetables for your dinner from the vegetable patch, look out for the barn and tawny owls who make this place their home or take an evening sundowner up to the viewing platform and take in the panoramic views over the open countryside out to the blue waters of St Austell Bay in one direction and glimpses of the biomes at The Eden Project in the other, it's quite a spot!
There are so many delights to explore close by so pack up a picnic, don those walking boots and enjoy. The Eden Project is on the doorstep, with giant biomes packed full of plants from around the world, children's play areas, zip wires and events throughout the year it makes for a great day out. The nearby village of Luxulyan has a local shop for those all essential provisions along with a village pub serving up traditional pub food.
When in Cornwall to the coast you must go. Marvel at the tall ships in historic Charlestown, a picture perfect harbourside village with boutique shops and galleries and a great choice of places to eat and drink. For a day at the seaside there's so many beaches to choose from, you could pick a different one every day. For starters there's Polkerris, Porthpean and Pentewan to keep you amused and Par Sands is dog friendly all year round.
The trendy sailing town of Fowey is well worth a visit. Take a pew at one of the many waterside eateries, treat yourself to some retail therapy, join a boat trip, kayak up the river or enjoy the thrill of a sea safari.
The south coast has a bounty of glorious gardens and The Lost Gardens of Heligan has to be top of the list. Add to this Tregrehan, Marsh Villa and Pinetum and you will be inspired to create your own little oasis when you return home.
