KingThere are fabulous views over the sailing waters around St Mawes from both the garden and first floor living-room of this contemporary eco-house, set on the edge of St Just in Roseland on the beautiful Roseland peninsula. Looking out over green fields to the sea beyond, the wonderful sight of yachts clustering on the water in summer races and frothing waves in winter winds will prove fascinating to watch and guaranteed to delight.
Unassuming from the approach road, Chyandour looks part of a terrace of small Victorian cottages but once you’ve turned downhill and into the quiet cul-de-sac at the rear of the terrace you see the unexpected sight of a row of tall, timber-clad modern houses with peaked apex rooflines and glass-fronted balconies. Big rooms, high ceilings and an open plan living area make this a wonderfully hospitable holiday home, perfect for families and couples alike.
There are delightful creekside and coastal walks nearby, beaches galore and the iconic sailing town of St Mawes, with its fabulous restaurants, shops and galleries, just a five minute drive away.
Steps lead up from the parking-area to a smooth green lawn bordered with colourful shrubs and a patio set with outdoor dining furniture and a barbecue, a wonderful spot for family feasts on mellow summer evenings.
Inside, Chyandour has a king-size double bedroom with en suite shower-room and doors out to the patio, family bathroom and twin bedroom on the ground floor, with a wide hallway and stairs leading up to the first floor. Here, high apex ceilings and floor to ceiling windows allow light to flood in, with a large balcony providing a fabulous sitting-area with grandstand views.
Sofas are set before a warming wood-burner, lovely for holidays in the cooler months, and the well-equipped kitchen is perfect for rustling up holiday meals. The second king-size double bedroom is on this floor, offering a degree of privacy from the bedrooms below.
The Roseland peninsula is a wonderful place, softer than the north Cornish coast and sheltered from predominant winds. An ideal location for beach enthusiasts, garden lovers, walkers and those who love eating out, there are sandy beaches (with nearby Caerhays, Pendower and Carne all having parking right by the beach), fabulous walks for those with dogs and great opportunities for dining out with renowned restaurants like The Rosevine and Driftwood near Portscatho and The Idle Rocks and Hotel Tresanton in St Mawes. The Hidden Hut cafe, found beside the coastal footpath just outside Portscatho and only accessible on foot, is famous for its summer feast nights but also offers great, locally-sourced food during the day for walkers enjoying a coastal hike.
The Lost Gardens of Heligan are less than half an hour away, found just outside the ancient fishing port of Mevagissey where small fishing boats bob on the water beside yachts and dinghies. Lovely gardens at Caerhays, Trewithen and Lamorran House are close by (open in the summer months) and the Eden Project is just half an hour’s drive away.
Big enough for family holidays, Chyandour is also available out of the main season at a reduced price for parties of two or less using the first floor and family bathroom only.
Two well-behaved, medium-sized dogs are welcome (owners are reminded that they must clear up after their pets).
