This lovely little waterside bolthole is perfect for couples who like walking, bird watching or messing about on the water – and those who just like to kick back and relax in comfort.

Set beside the tidal River Lerryn, there are riverside footpaths to explore, easy launching for kayaks and canoes from the riverbank at high tide and wading birds visiting the mudflats at low tide. The village of Lerryn nestles in a wooded valley where an ancient stone bridge spans the river and stepping stones appear at low tide. The village pub serves traditional food, local farms sell scrumpy cider and farm shops offer locally produced food.

Small but oh-so-perfectly formed, Little Gem has an open plan living-room with a fully fitted kitchen, an inglenook fireplace with an electric stove (all the warmth of a traditional wood-burner but so much easier to use!) and a spiral staircase leading up to the bedroom and separate shower-room.

There is a small patio at the front of the cottage with a table and chairs where a morning coffee or evening glass of wine can be enjoyed. From the bedroom you have a view of the river and the apex ceiling gives a lovely feeling of space. The ancient stannary town of Lostwithiel is nearby, a treasure trove of antique and vintage shops mixed with old fashioned tea rooms and an award-winning restaurant. There are riverside walks and the remains of Restormel Castle to explore, and a train link to both north and south coasts.

The Bodinnick ferry is just a few miles away, crossing to the sailing town of Fowey with its sandy beach at Readymoney Cove and winding streets full of boutique shops and wonderful eating places. The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan are slightly further west, both worthy of a visit and a delight for keen gardeners.
