Little Bessemer is a hidden away cottage in the heart of Berrynarbor, one of north Devon's prettiest villages, indeed a 'Village in Bloom' Gold Award winner. Set well away from the owners' home, the cottage has a totally enclosed sub-tropical garden with a secret bench by a little stream. Just half a mile away at the foot of the hill, is the first of a chain of beautiful unspoilt coves and beaches, linked by a dramatic section of the South West Coast Path.

This light filled cottage has a sunny breakfast/dining-room, a living-area with the kitchen neatly fitted along the back wall allowing for plenty of space, a lovely large bedroom with 'zip and link' (super-king or twin) beds and en suite shower-room. Outside, the first terrace is a great place to start the day overlooking the garden, the village rooftops and glimpses of the countryside beyond. Steps lead down from the cottage into the garden which is very private and beautifully planted, so that there is colour all year round. A separate outhouse is home to a freezer and tumble-drier should you need to use these.

Little Bessemer has its own entrance and path from the road where you can drop off your luggage before parking in the private space just 100 yards away. The setting for the cottage is at the heart of this very traditional thriving village, which has an historic church, very popular friendly pub, a primary school and an award-winning community run village shop.

This part of north Devon not only offers fantastic sandy beaches, rocky coves and rugged cliffs, but also the wide-open spaces of the Exmoor National Park beyond Simonsbath which you can reach in just half an hour. You can follow the coast around to Lynton towards Porlock, where Exmoor National Park meets the sea. This is a route with amazing landscapes to take in, including the Valley of the Rocks and Lorna Doone country. If you love getting out into the countryside or along the coastal paths, Little Bessemer could not be better placed for a walking holiday.

For garden lovers, Arlington Court, Marwood - a 20-acre private garden in a hidden valley - and RHS Rosemoor are all excellent for day trips. Of course one of the best gardens is the one that goes with Little Bessemer - it is a delight.
