The property is in a beautifully elevated position with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. The large balcony is a fantastic place to sit out and enjoy the peace and quiet. On arrival we found the property spotlessly clean and were delighted with the superb cake the owner had left for us. There are walks directly from the property and a super pub a 5 minute walk away. The lodge was warm and comfortable and the showers were fantastic and powerful. Some of the soft furnishings, cutlery and mugs need updating but this didn't really detract from our stay. As a previous reviewer has mentioned, due to the open plan nature of the kitchen/dining/sitting areas I think it would feel overcrowded if 6 adults were staying. ...

Bashford Lodge was one of the best self-catering properties we have stayed in (over 30 years' experience). It was very comfortable, the beds were perfect, and everything was provided for, especially the stupendous cake! (That didn't last long...) Jill was such a welcoming owner and we very much enjoyed chatting to her. The setting is so peaceful, the air is soft and refreshing, and the view is outstanding - as other guests have found, it is very difficult to stop sitting and looking at the rolling hills and the ever-changing clouds, light and shade. The horses added to the overall 'balm for the soul'. Although we are only an hour away - East Devon and South Somerset - West Somerset is a world away . The Rising Sun is well worth a visit and is in staggering distance! ...
