The Monsal Trail is a stunning walk/cycle route which starts from Bakewell station and runs for eight and a half miles along the former Midland Railway line to Blackwell Mill. There are two cycle hire centres, one at Hassop Station, the other at the northern end, Blackwell Hill) and various cafes on route. The small car park at Upperdale is mid-way and and ideal if you would rather enjoy the delights of charming Millers Dale with beautiful scenery and an enchanting river. For the best views head to Monsal Head for an ice cream!

A mere two miles from Bakewell, Great Longstone is a traditional Derbyshire village with pretty sandstone cottages and two excellent pubs. This quiet village is also home to a delightful 13th century church, well worth a look if you are in the area.

Millers Dale is situated in a beautiful valley, most of which is preserved as a Site of Specific Scientific Interest. A footpath meanders alongside the river Wye through woodlands with steep sided hills on both sides. This gorgeous landscape is one of the most popular in the Peak District, and it's easy to see why!
Monsal Head is a beauty spot at the head of a natural valley, with stunning views down the valley towards the river Wye and beyond. There is a pub, cafe and gift shop during summer months and small car park. From here walkers can explore miles of footpaths, one of which the Monsal Trail across the old railway viaduct through riverside meadows.
