About Somerset
Somerset staycations are so easy to travel to, yet you can still feel a million miles away from your everyday. Somerset cossets you into the West Country from the lowlands of Sedgemoor, through the Quantocks and on to its tussle with Devon over Exmoor in the north. It may be famous for cider, cheese and flat level lands but this little county also has lots of hills to climb and its own coastline with Somerset cottages near the beach at Bridgwater Bay and other seaside towns such as Porlock Weir, Minehead, Dunster, not forgetting Watchet and Burnham-on-sea, all the way up to Weston-super-Mare.
The pretty village of Porlock is a popular base for walkers exploring the trails that criss-cross Somerset's moorland and coast, where you can start your day by the sea and end up in the depths of Exmoor, surveying the scene from a tor top. Nearby, Medieval Dunster draws those looking to soak up some Somerset culture and history.
From Withypool on Exmoor, across as far as Frome, there are holiday cottages in Somerset with views of rolling hills, flat expanses of greenery, panoramas of farming, cider and cheese among the Blackdown Hills, Mendip Hills and Quantock Hills. Don't forget to pay a visit to the world-famous Glastonbury for plenty of history and heritage, quirky independent shops and a walk up to Glastonbury Tor! Nearby is the beautiful city of Wells, with its pretty cathedral and local markets. Spend some time discovering the lesser known villages around Somerset, perfect for an afternoon of exploring, such as Wedmore and Axbridge, close to the Mendip Hills.
