Archie Browns, Penzance

Any Cornish vegetarian worth their hummus will know about Archie Browns. The popular health food shop and vegetarian café has branches in Truro and Penzance and is known for its healthy, delicious veggie fare. 

Pop in for a heart-happy lunch featuring the likes of salads, gluten-free quiches, and homemade soups, as well as more unusual options such as farinata (delicious vegan pancakes made with chickpea flour). Whatever you do, make sure you order something from the cake stand and a smoothie to wash everything down – it’s a truly hunger-crushing combo! 

The shop is also well worth a visit, full of tempting treats and eco-friendly finds, from vegan haircare to freshly baked bread. Penzance and the surrounding villages are full of fun and fascinating things to see and do too, from Jubilee Pool to the wonderful Newlyn Filmhouse.

 

Be Kind, Hayle

Another lip-smacking addition to West Cornwall’s vegan offering, the Be Kind Vegan Coffee Caravan boasts a dizzying menu full of all manner of totally vegan delights. From incredible toasties (think Cubans with homemade pulled ‘pork’ and Philly cheesesteaks) and vegan BLTs to indulgent cakes, brownies, and cookies and warming coffees, the choice is next level from this oh-so-smiley food van.

It’s not just sumptuous snacks and lunches being served up here, either. Jaw-dropping views across St Ives Bay are your dining companions, alongside a roster of fun-filled and friendly community events, from free art classes to organised litter picks. Equipment is supplied at these events and there’s no need to book, so you can simply rock up with a smile on your face and get stuck in!

Just like it says on the tin, this beloved restaurant in Truro is 100% vegan. And boy, is it good if you’re in the mood for some meat-free comfort food. Inspired by travel and a world of different cultures, you can expect the likes of vegan fish and chips, mushroom fusion, and Canadian poutine. For those after something a little lighter, you’ll find delicious daily salad specials, poke bowls, and soup of the day.

Everything is made in-house (or sourced from local producers) at The Cornish Vegan, including their vegan butter, mayonnaise, and even cheese. The menu is always being updated to keep things fresh and interesting, giving you all the excuses to visit as often as you can. Eat your vegan feast in or take it away and enjoy it in the beautiful Victoria Gardens in Truro.

The friendly and buzzing atmosphere is outshone only by the tasty menu, which offers lunchtime and evening meals. Based at the Mount Pleasant Eco Park, the café is open seven days a week, 9am to 3pm, with several evenings boasting thematic – and delicious – fun (Wednesdays are Canteen kebabs, Thursdays are tacos, Fridays are paella, and Saturdays are curry night). The day-to-day menu varies, with the likes of chilli, BBQ, and puddings adding a variety of colours and flavours to your plate - not to mention their famous Sunday lunches!
