Shanklin makes up a large proportion of South Wight. Nestled in between Sandown and Ventnor, this town used to attract plenty of Victorian visitors. From Shanklin’s beaches you’ll be able to see Culver Downs to the east and may glimpse St Catherine’s point to the west. From historic landmarks to pretty gardens, there's lots to see and do in this pretty town.Read more
The town is split into two: the old town and the new. The new part of Shanklin looks like a normal town, there are plenty of shops and cafes to explore but at the heart of the new town is Shanklin theatre. This lovely building plays host to plenty of performances throughout the year, a lovely evening out while on holiday on the Isle of Wight.
The old part of Shanklin is like a step back in time. The old town is made up of beautiful thatched cottages selling pretty trinkets from the Isle of Wight, serving lovely cream teas and there’s the odd pub or two for lunches, dinners and drinks. This iconic part of the island attracts visitors from far and wide.
If you like the beauty of Shanklin’s old town, head towards the centre of the Isle of Wight for a visit to the thatched roofs of Godshill. St Catherine’s point is a great place to go walking or take the coastal path and walk from Shanklin to the point, visit the lighthouse and then head back to find a cosy pub fire to sit beside.
