Portscatho Cottages
A Portscatho holiday cottage promises a peaceful Cornish break. A beautiful village on the Roseland peninsula in Cornwall, Portscatho is an undiscovered haven nestled off the tourist trail. The Roseland is the perfect place for that classic beach holiday with plenty to do for all the family; buckets and spades, windbreakers and a good ice cream. Read more
The beaches here are unspoilt and fairly quiet in comparison to other areas of Cornwall, meaning you can spend all day frolicking on golden sands without getting caught up in the rush of seasonal visitors to the Cornish coast. With Porthcurnick beach on the doorstep, the golden sands of Carne and Pendower further north and Towan beach owned by the National Trust to the south, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to waves. Away from the coast you can embrace the Swallows and Amazons lifestyle with an adventure along the many creeks and rivers hidden away.
Portscatho is ideal for families or big groups; bring your dog, all the kids and a bucket and spade, of course.
Take things at your own pace with a visit to the various pubs and restaurants in Portscatho and beyond. The village has plenty of galleries and little shops to find gifts to take home or pretty items to decorate your own home. Make the most of the self catering facilities in your cottage with a visit to the local butcher or visit the fish festival in August for a taste of fresh Cornish produce. If you’re not sure how to cook it all up, take a trip to a local cookery school called Philleigh Way, who run wonderful day-long courses throughout the year.
Not too far from Portscatho you’ll find St Mawes, St Anthony’s head and St Just in Roseland. With a castle to explore and loads of places to eat (suitable for every budget), St Mawes is a great day out for all the family. You can also take the passenger ferry from St Mawes to Falmouth or even Truro if you feel like trying some alternative transport. St Anthony’s head is perfect for walkers as it offers some fantastic views of the coast. The Roseland has plenty of creeks and coast paths to wander at your leisure, a wonderful way to relax while on holiday. St Just in Roseland is a fairly small village but has a picturesque church settled by a blue lagoon with palm trees. A tropical and intriguing spot to explore.
