William the Conqueror landed here in 1066 before the historic Battle of Hastings. At the time the harbour was a bustling port but over time the coast has receded and now the local village is over a mile away from the beach. These days the shingle beach is pretty quiet with good views over the channel. Pay and display parking is available nearby and dogs are allowed although restrictions may apply in high season.

Lovely village

Excellent bakery. Cheapest petrol for miles (at the Jet garage). Helpful pharmacy. Please note the castle is closed until further notice due to subsidence(!) but the observatory is still open and well worth a visit - especially if you have young ones.

Had lunch twice at the Rose and Crown. Full of character and with a good food menu to cater for different tastes. Very friendly.
