With glimpses of the battlements, this charming bolthole in the centre of Alnwick is a fantastic base for exploring the delights of this historic town and a stunning part of Northumberland. This private first floor apartment is attractively furnished throughout making it most comfortable to return to after a day exploring the local area.

Castle View has all you need and more for a relaxing stay. The contemporary kitchen is fully equipped for whipping up wonderful meals of local produce for you to enjoy sharing them at the dining-table. Through to the sitting-area with stylish sofas and plenty of space to relax and spend some time catching up on your missed TV programmes, or just chatting about your day's adventures. The stairs lead up from here to the next floor with bedroom and modern shower-room, the rain-head shower is a delight after a strenuous walk over the nearby dunes. From the bedroom, with its calming decor, you can see the parapets of Alnwick Castle and imagine knights patrolling them, or maybe a game of Quidditch with Harry Potter.

From your door, it is a two minute walk to the town centre with a range of lovely independent shops, cafes and restaurants. A statue of Harry Percy Hotspur, Alnwick's most famous knight and one of Shakespeare's best known characters, will greet you as you emerge onto the main street. Turn the other way and you are at the rear of Alnwick Castle, a great place to visit and immerse yourself in the history of Northumberland, still owned and lived in by the Percy family. Venture a little further and you will come across the spectacular Alnwick gardens with fountains and water falls and the famous poison garden. Visit in spring and witness the terraces of the Taihaku cherry orchard in blossom. Or you could take a stroll around Hulne park in the grounds of the castle,

For those who love reading, the old railway station is now Barter Books and one of the best loved second hand book shops in the country. Watch the miniature train make its circuit high above your head while you choose your perfect reading list. Also for those who love shopping, why not check out the Saturday market in the centre of town.

For a different shopping experience both Edinburgh and Newcastle are a short train ride away. With a station in nearby Alnmouth there is no need to worry about city parking.

Further afield you have the beautiful Northumberland coastline, dotted with pretty fishing villages. Walk along the sands for miles from Seahouses to spectacular Bamburgh Castle. Or why not take a boat trip to the Farne islands to check out the great variety of seabirds.

Up the coast a little at low tide you can cross the causeway to Holy Island to take in the beauty of Lindisfarne Castle and stock up on some delicious local mead.

Interested in astronomy, then Kielder Water is the place for you. Located in a protected International Dark Sky Park, it has an observatory you can visit. Or you could just look up on a clear night and see more stars than you thought possible.

For more ancient history take a day trip to Hadrian's Wall and visit the Roman fort of Vindolanda or enjoy outdoor adventure such as cycling or walking.

All in all Castle View is a great place to stay and enjoy the wonders of Northumberland. One visit may not be enough!
