DoubleWith pastoral views of the surrounding woodland and within serpentine splendour, the conversion of this milking barn took place in 2021 to create a stunning bijou abode. Located a two-minute drive or a ten-minute walk to the pretty fishing village of Porthallow, which is the mid-way point on the South West Coast Path. Also, within the iconic Fat Apples site which has a beautiful community energy yet boasts an exclusively private feel with its own entrance, Rose's Loft is a truly unique hideaway for two lucky guests and is named after the owner's mother, Rose Jourdan (nee Paynter). Rose was related to Colonel Paynter, a characterful landowner that resided at Boskenna House near St Buryan. Although Rose spent her life living in Devon, she truly loved Cornwall and followed the Newlyn School of Painters, a group of artists based near Newlyn from the late 1800's till the early 20th Century.
Ascend the ten steps to your external canopied entrance vestibule, kick off your walking boots or beach shoes and be welcomed by the serene and neutral palette of your humble living space. The petite space is open plan and includes a mini kitchen for whipping up a light breakfast, brunch or supper, a comfortable lounge area and private dining space should you wish to use it, complete with divine glass door perfect for letting both the light and the fresh country air flood in.
The bedroom is spacious and has a comfortable double bed, plenty of hanging space and a brand new shower-room with glow mirror. There is an interconnecting door to the neighbouring property, but rest assured this is completely soundproof and private.
There is an abundance of surrounding land to enjoy at Rose's Loft. This is communal with the very small and friendly campsite that is also on site. There's a wealth of places to settle down with a good novel on a sun lounger or with a picnic under the towering canopies, or by the natural pond where geese, ducks, ducklings and goslings reside. This land is eco conscious and the habitat for the wildlife is encouraged with wildflower meadows and a safer space for the flora and fauna to thrive, yet you still have plenty of space to park your vehicle ahead of your Cornish adventures. The best of both worlds! The Fat Apples site is home to one of the most iconic eateries on The Lizard peninsula, so most guests tend to indulge in the beautiful food that is offered here.
Porthallow is an ancient fishing village and a real hidden, untouched and unspoilt location in rural Cornwall, and has been described as 'the best kept secret'. Having prime position on the South West Coast Path makes it a fantastic location for explores of the coastal paths. For those seeking something extra special, Porthkerris Dive Centre is a mile and a half up the road, about a six minute drive from Fat Apples and is a must-do. They have excursions for divers of all abilities and the south Cornish coast is known for being home to one of the twelve marine conversation areas in the United Kingdom with one of the best water clarities for spotting marine life or basking sharks and it is also home to the famous Manacles reef, where you can dive to see shipwrecks.
Another one of our recommendations would be to head over to Sailaway St Anthony at Gillan Creek where you can hire a jolly little day boat, kick back on a kayak, or delight in some dinghy sailing and explore the sights only accessible via the water.
Ever so slightly further afield, you will find the oak lined Helford River, where you can hop on a water taxi to the north side. Perhaps a visit to the sandy cove of Coverack for a spot of paddle boarding and fish and chips? There is so much to see and do in this captivating part of the world, you will be planning your return before you have even left.
