You will appreciate the convenience of a walkable pub, perfect for enjoying local cuisine and ales and The Old Post Office is ideally situated for exploring the stunning North York Moors, quaint country villages and, of course, the seaside. Thirsk is home to the James Herriot museum, celebrating the beloved world-renowned vet and author.

You will be welcomed inside The Old Post Office into the kitchen which is just the place to whip up a Yorkshire feast, there is a local butcher only a few yards away so take advantage and stock up for a memorable dinner or a fun barbecue. The dining-room boasts a lovely original beam and plenty of room for everyone to gather and spend time catching up on the day's adventures, photos at the ready! The sitting-room is at the front of the property and looks out over the village, it exudes country-style with its cosy sofas and crackling open fire, you can visit in any season and be guaranteed a cosy welcome.

When bedtime beckons the three lovely bedrooms will delight you, the beds with fluffy pillows and duvets will be a haven of comfort after a busy day. The shower-room completes the upstairs.

Helperby is a quaint village close to Thirsk which nestles within the heart of North Yorkshire. Here you will find cobbled streets, a fine market square and historic inns which date from when Thirsk was an important posting station. Thirsk has a racecourse where you can have a flutter on the horses or visit the James Herriot museum, voted one of the best 10 visitor attractions in the world and houses the original surgery of Alf Wight, Thirsk is the fictional 'Darrowby'. Choose from a great selection of restaurants and cafes serving hearty home-made local Yorkshire fayre or grab some fish and chips and sit around the clock tower in the sunlight to enjoy this delicacy.

The area is a haven for walkers and cyclists, there are many pathways and cycle tracks close by suitable for everyone. The Old Post Office is an excellent starting point for exploring the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales which are within easy reach.

York, with its imposing minster and medieval walls, is just 30 mins away and great for a lively night out, a spot of retail therapy or a day of culture. Harrogate is only 45 minutes away, you must visit the famous Betty's Tea Rooms with its ingenious British/Austrian fusion of flavours, not for calorie counting.

Lake Gormire hides on the side of Sutton Bank in thick woodland and is one of only two natural lakes in Yorkshire, you can wild swim here. Abbeys such as Rievaulx, Fountains and Byland give a nod to the vast amount of history in the area, the most Iconic being Whitby Abbey, the inspiration for Bram Stoker's 'Dracula'. Why not take a trip to the seaside and dip your toes in the sea and feel the sand beneath your feet, the east coast has many old fishing villages such as Robin Hood's Bay with its dark history of smuggling or Whitby with its heritage of fishing and the home of Captain Cook.

For a treat there a no less than four Michelin starred restaurants close by, including The Black Swan at Oldstead and Roots York by Tommy Banks.
