KingProudly looking down over Teignmouth and with fabulous views of the ever-changing sea and estuary, Duncombe is a very special place which is sure to be a favourite with big groups of families or friends. This glorious Victorian villa is surrounded by mature gardens and is beautifully decorated, retaining all of its original charm but it's no draughty old relic. Fully insulated, heated by renewable energy, powered by solar panels, with fast fibre WiFi, and an electric vehicle charger, Duncombe is a bang-up-to-date eco-house, and the house and garden are accessible for any members of the group with limited mobility. Big gatherings, with everything you need for relaxation and fun, have been thought of throughout. Bring your paddle boards, bicycles, wetsuits, flip flops and your walking shoes, your yoga mats and your sketchbook, and of course your laptops if you still need to work while on holiday. There's plenty of space for everything, and something for everyone in Duncombe. There's even a secret door between two rooms. How long will it take you to find it?
With secure off road parking for at least three cars, enter Duncombe through the sunny conservatory, with its spectacular geranium, into the welcoming hall. Children will be drawn one way into the sunny snug with its chillout sofa and Smart TV. Other members of the party will be drawn into the elegant sitting-room, where the whole group can relax on its comfy sofas, enjoy the views through the bay window of the garden and the sea beyond, chat around its lovely open fire, and dim the lights for big movie nights with its Smart TV. Further down the hall, you'll find the fabulous modern kitchen, fully equipped to cater for at least 12, which opens into the dining-room with its bespoke octagonal dining-table which expands from seating eight to ten and to twelve. Open the beautiful French doors from the dining-room to the garden and enjoy sunny breakfasts, relaxed lunches and fabulous dinners. Beyond the kitchen you'll enter the large games-room for rowdy fun with a vintage table-football, full-sized ping pong table, dart board and a piano, plus a huge blackboard for creative fun. Or fold away the ping pong table and bring out the yoga mats and breathe and stretch out in the space together. Out the back of the kitchen is the spacious, well-equipped utility-room, which houses all your coats and boots and buggies and has space for extra food storage. This leads onto the wet-room, perfect for hot showers and for hosing down sandy children, your wetsuits and muddy dogs. Part of the genius of the house is how the utility, wet-room and snug combine to provide a fully accessible downstairs double bedroom suite for members of your group with mobility issues (full details of the accessible facilities can be provided).
In the entrance hall, the superb original staircase leads up to the bedrooms. On the half-landing, you will find bedroom one, a lovely room that has the option of combining the twin beds into a sumptuous super-king double bed. On this floor, you will also find a beautifully finished bathroom complete with a bath, shower, wash-basin and toilet. Continue up to the main landing and you will find the rest of the bedrooms, all of which come with lavish bedding and plenty of storage space. To your left is bedroom two with a sumptuous super-king double bed which be made up as twin beds if preferred. To your right is bedroom three with a king-size bed which can be split into small single beds (two-foot six-inches, normally for children). Now you are at the front of the house, where bedroom four is the main bedroom with its fabulous en suite shower-room and Smart TV. Enjoy the panoramic views of the sea and the landmark Ness cliff from your king-size bed or from the relaxing armchairs in the window. Next along the front of the house is spacious bedroom five housing a sumptuous super-king bed which can again be made up as twin beds, and a table and chairs for working or enjoying breakfast and again the stunning view. Finally, along the front of the house, is bedroom six, a serene space where the view from your king-size bed is hypnotic. Beside this bedroom is a luxurious family bathroom with bath, shower, wash-basin and toilet, plus an additional separate toilet.
When you emerge from your lovely bedrooms, head downstairs and outside to Duncombe's gorgeous garden areas. Let the kids and dogs wear themselves out on the luscious lawns as you relax. A table and chairs for eight offer al fresco dining, while the padded seating area is the perfect place to enjoy the starry night sky with a glass of something special. Once you've fully settled into this fabulous house, venture out and explore the unique delights of the local area. Teignmouth's two beaches (the front beach and the back beach) are just a 15 minute walk down the hill and through the old town. Stroll down and enjoy all the fun of the seaside, and don't miss the sunsets at the legendary pubs on the back beach, The Ship and The New Quay, while watching the ships come into port and all the jolly bustle of people messing around in boats. Take the ferry over the river to the bijou village of Shaldon, with its tranquil architecture and wonderful independent shops. Take a fishing trip or hire a paddleboard and head up the estuary to Coombe Cellars pub. Drive to Dawlish Warren with its vast beach stretching up to one and a half miles in length and wonderful birdlife. Walk or cycle in the country lanes and up the estuaries of the Teign, the Exe and the Dart. Visit the local vineyard and enjoy fine dining. Just inland, visit the rugged landscapes of Dartmoor National Park, to reconnect with wild open spaces, walk up rugged granite tors, explore prehistoric settlements, wander amongst Dartmoor wild ponies, enjoy beautiful rivers and breathtaking lungfuls of fresh air.
Duncombe is located perfectly to offer a truly special south Devon holiday. Whether it's the coast or countryside you seek, whether you want to explore the area or to stay very local, this stunning house offers a splendid 'all year round' getaway, for families and groups of friends.
