Moorhen Cottage is a single-storey barn situated in a rural location in the heart of an organic dairy farm in the hamlet of Wartling with views of the Pevensey marshes and the South Downs. This converted barn has been simply furnished and in a great location for bird watching, cycling, walking and for those who enjoy the countryside.

From the open plan oak-framed living area you will enjoy views out onto the garden and beyond. The under-floor heating and solar heated hot water will ensure you are comfortable whatever the weather and the owner has thoughtfully provided some wellies should you forget to bring your own.

Outside is a paved patio and large private garden with a raised terrace which makes a great setting for meals together during fine sunny days. There is also a large wildlife pond and at the bottom of the garden there is a ha-ha – beware of the five foot drop.

Beside the cottage is ample parking for two cars and a large shed with table-tennis and storage for bicycles. The farm specialises in making (tasty!) organic yoghurt, delicious yoghurt drinks and labneh cheese. These can be purchased online or bought from some of the local shops.

The hamlet of Wartling, in walking distance, has a beautiful church dating back to the 13th Century – the striking lectern has been carved out of elm in the form of a heron and families of these magnificent birds can be seen on the marshes. The nearby village of Boreham Street has a pub, tearoom and garage.

Hailsham, a market town with a useful Waitrose, is within 15 minutes' drive.

For history buffs, you are in 1066 Country and only a short drive away from Battle. Here you can visit the remains of the abbey and battlefield and potter around the town's historic High Street's twee local shops, tearooms and pubs. You could visit Herstmonceux Castle gardens and grounds set in 300 acres of woodland and combine that with a visit to the Observatory Science Centre.

Pevensey Castle, Michelham Priory and Rudyard Kipling's home at Batemans are all within easy reach. If you fancy the coast take a trip to Eastbourne or Pevensey Bay. A little further afield is the sandy beach of Camber Sands.
