Another gorgeous walk in the Blackdown Hills is Staple Hill, where you can wander the path through ancient pines.
Barrington Court, a Tudor manor owned by the National Trust, is a short drive away.
Montacute House, another National Trust property, is also worth a visit.
Why not hop on the West Somerset Steam Railway that leaves from Bishops Lydeard?
Lyme Regis is a vibrant seaside town with some great choices when it comes to dining and can be reached in under 40 minutes by car.

Cabin was exactly as described (if not better) - the bathroom pictures certainly do not do it justice! - and Nick was very kind in lighting the hot tub fire for us whilst we were in West Bay on one of the days! We had an amazing stay at The Whistle was greeted by Nick on arrival who gave us time to settle before coming to explain how a few things worked. The Shepherds Hut was beautiful & well equipped with little extras such as tea, coffee pods, cleaning products, milk, biscuits & 2 ciders. The bathroom had hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, robes & bath towels. The WiFi was a good connection & the rotating TV was a added bonus. Outside had plenty of seating, the hot tub, wood burner, pizza oven & bbq were amazing you usually get a 'starter kit' but we were supplied with plenty of wood & coal for our stay. We did not use the indoor log burner as the underfloor heating was on & it was warm enough. The views are amazing & location is good. Will definitely be returning by far the best Shepherds Hut we have stayed in of many. Thank you Nick & Sallie...

We had the most amazing experience at the cottage !!! The attention to detail was excellent and our host was amazing !!
But really the place was perfect and we'd definitely recommend.
