Bedroom 4 has a truckle bed, with fully sprung 3ft mattresses, one tucked beneath the other. The room can easily be set up as a twin bedroom if you wish.
The stairs are beautifully restored and quite narrow.

The garden faces south west and has great views across Branscombe Vale. Please supervise small children as there is a sunken fence (a ha-ha) at the side of the lawn, just before the hedge.

A 15 minute walk through National Trust land will take you to Branscombe's shingle beach.
The award-winning Sea Shanty Beach cafe at Branscombe beach serves delicious locally caught seafood.
Jacob's Ladder at nearby Sidmouth.
Nearby Beer is charming and still an active fishing village, the wet fish shop on the beach sells the catch of the day, ideal for the barbecue.
Lyme Regis has some great restaurants, cafes and independent shops as well as a safe, sandy beach with SUP and kayak hire in the summer.
River Cottage HQ is a short drive from Barnell Cottage, if you feel like booking in for a cookery course or a delicious meal.

We were a party of eight plus dogs staying over the New Year period. The owners were very accommodating to a last minute request due to us re-homing a small dog. The house was very well equipped/decorated and furnished to a high standard. On arrival champagne, biscuits and fresh flowers were left for us which was very well received! The location of Barnell Cottage was perfect for our families. An amazing walk down to the Sea Shanty Café in Branscombe where we had a lovely cooked breakfast and then we headed up onto the coastal path to Beer! Be prepared for some hilly walks! The views are stunning. We also did the walk from Branscombe beach along the coastal path in the opposite direction to The Fountain Head pub. Our dogs had the best holiday! Both pubs in the village (The Masons Arms and Fountain Head) serve great food and are very friendly and both dog friendly. The Donkey Sanctuary was lovely to visit, especially if you have smaller children - although our teenage boys really enjoyed it too! We would most definitely recommend Barnell Cottage to anyone who wishes to get a relaxing break in a very peaceful and pretty part of Devon. Thank you Karl and Jill! ...

Location, views, excellent quality and comfort of the interior, hosts very welcoming, house extremely well equipped, also very thoughtful practical items like hand soaps and bin bags provided. This is the only house we have stayed in, in the last 5 years that has provided dishwasher tablets and ensured the dishwasher was filled with rinse aid and salt, perhaps trivial but when you are on a short break it's essential not to have to shop for basics. We really appreciated these little extras....

Just beautiful - a great base, so well thought out! Luxury but at the same time we weren’t worried about having the children running about as it’s all so perfectly appointed! Would definitely stay again - maybe in winter to make use of that gorgeous fire!...
