Bedroom 4 has a truckle bed, with fully sprung 3ft mattresses, one tucked beneath the other. The room can easily be set up as a twin bedroom if you wish.
The stairs are beautifully restored and quite narrow.

Looking back at the cottage, the sitting-room is on the right with the french doors.

This is the pretty and private setting for the cottage.
The garden faces south west and has great views across Branscombe Vale. Please supervise small children as there is a sunken fence (a ha-ha) at the side of the lawn, just before the hedge.

A 15 minute walk through National Trust land will take you to Branscombe's shingle beach.
The award-winning Sea Shanty Beach cafe at Branscombe beach serves delicious locally caught seafood.
Jacob's Ladder at nearby Sidmouth.
Nearby Beer is charming and still an active fishing village, the wet fish shop on the beach sells the catch of the day, ideal for the barbecue.
Lyme Regis has some great restaurants, cafes and independent shops as well as a safe, sandy beach with SUP and kayak hire in the summer.
River Cottage HQ is a short drive from Barnell Cottage, if you feel like booking in for a cookery course or a delicious meal.

We had a nice stay at Barnell Cottage although the weather turned from Summer to Autumn overnight. The Masons arms had lovely staff and served great food ( if you are driving there the car park isn't that big and fills up pretty quickly)We enjoyed visiting the rspb nature reserve at Seaton and the tram ride was well worth the money . Beer was very picturesque and Sidmouth had a good selection of shops. Just be aware that if you are a nervous driver the roads going in and out of Branscombe can be a bit tricky ( single track and lots of bends ) especially if you meet the bus coming in the opposite direction....

We found Barnell cottage to be a nice property in a tranquil spot. The cottage itself is lovely, but we found the decor and some of the furnishings, for example the main room sofa to be a little jaded and worn. The photos on your site did not depict how the rooms looked when we arrived. Our experience at previous rental properties we have stayed at, has been that there is usually a welcome folder giving guidance/advice on Wi-Fi, heating system, appliances, local restaurants/attractions, how to get to local beach, or even simple things like when/where to dispose of bin rubbish - there was absolutely no information, and in fact the wi fi code that was left in the sparse folder there was, was an incorrect one! The sofa in the Tv room/snug was very uncomfortable, and not suited to sitting on comfortably for longer than half an hour. Would be nice idea to have some books/board games available for rainy days. Positives were the cottage was clean, kitchen equipment well stocked, comfortable bed, milk/pack of biscuits/cut flowers on arrival, 20minute walk to Branscombe beach. ...

A beautiful cottage in beautiful surroundings. The views are stunning and the garden was delightful. We particularly enjoyed the walk along the path to the beach at Branscombe and the cliff walk to Beer. Would definitely stay here again.

We loved our time at Barnell Cottage. The location was perfect for us and this very pretty and quietly situated cottage has outstanding views across the valley. Although secluded, it’s only a short stroll from the beach, the coast path, a lovely thatched tea room at the Old Bakery and a great pub.
