Set in a pretty cobbled courtyard, Poachers Cottage is a delight.
John's Deli has shops and cafes in both Appledore and Instow. There are also some excellent pubs and little galleries to browse in.
The local pub is just down the road.
Across the estuary, reached by a lovely seasonal passenger ferry, is Instow, where there are wide sandy beaches at low and high tide.
A few hundred yards away you can stroll down the slipway at low tide for a sandy stretch of beach for your four-legged friend and children to enjoy.
Appledore is a traditional old fishing village with a wonderful network of little lanes and passageways to explore.
Catch the ferry from Bideford quay for a day out to Lundy Island.
North Devon's beaches are as good as any in Cornwall for surfing! Endless stretches of golden sand and rolling waves. This is Saunton Sands.
Charming Clovelly is a short car journey away.
Clovelly is a photographer's dream.
Have a day of adventure at North Devon Wake Park where you can wakeboard, paddle board or enjoy the giant aquapark!

Our second visit to poachers cottage. Such a comfortable place, with everything you could need in a great location. Some lovely restaurants and cafes, all within walking distance. We will definitely be returning.

We were surprised to find that the staircase was more like a spiral. We could see from the photo that the bottom was bending round but thought it would then go straight up. It was a challenge for two old ladies with knee problems. I suggest it should be noted in the original description in future. There were very good rails but one at the bottom on the right hand side would be very useful....
