Set in a pretty cobbled courtyard, Poachers Cottage is a delight.
John's Deli has shops and cafes in both Appledore and Instow. There are also some excellent pubs and little galleries to browse in.
The local pub is just down the road.
Across the estuary, reached by a lovely seasonal passenger ferry, is Instow, where there are wide sandy beaches at low and high tide.
A few hundred yards away you can stroll down the slipway at low tide for a sandy stretch of beach for your four-legged friend and children to enjoy.
Appledore is a traditional old fishing village with a wonderful network of little lanes and passageways to explore.
Catch the ferry from Bideford quay for a day out to Lundy Island.
North Devon's beaches are as good as any in Cornwall for surfing! Endless stretches of golden sand and rolling waves. This is Saunton Sands.
Charming Clovelly is a short car journey away.
Clovelly is a photographer's dream.
Have a day of adventure at North Devon Wake Park where you can wakeboard, paddle board or enjoy the giant aquapark!

We loved Poacher’s cottage and Appledore. Great half term with our 15, and 11 year old girls and dog! Plenty of great places to eat, drink and explore nearby. Spoilt for choice. Wonderful walks from the doorstep mingling with the sheep and horses on Northam Burrows. The George is spitting distance with great food overlooking the sea. Don’t be put off by the lack of parking - we bought a tourist permit and had no problems. Wonderful, wonderful week. ...
