This beautiful cottage was the home of the Dorset novelist, Thomas Hardy and is one of a number of places to visit near Dorchester, that are connected to the author.

We thought the cottage was very nice. Everything you could want. The shower was very good for my husband as he is disabled and it was large with a hand rail. It was in very good decorative order and clean. The only thing we found which is personal to us and other people might not agree, the sitting room was a bit dark and lacked colour for warmth, we also found the chairs and sofa a bit low to sit on. ...

The Old School Gables is a lovely cottage in a quiet village setting and although next door to the pub car park this was never a problem. There is plenty of parking right by the front door so unloading/packing is as easy as it can be. Everything you might need for a week or two stay is present and correct, the kitchen/dining area is good for 4 while the lounge is a decent size and comfortable. Both bedrooms have sloping ceilings and are not huge so a little care might be needed getting around either bed especially at night but we did not find this to be a significant issue. All in all a very pleasant cottage to spend time in and recommended. The owners live next door and are very friendly and helpful....
