Kilve Beach sits halfway between Minehead and Bridgwater. A rolling grassy expanse meeting a rocky beach peppered with rock pools, Kilve is picnic paradise. A Site of Special Scientific Interest, the beach is also home to lots of fossils, including ammonites and reptile remains. Just remember, you are not allowed to dig them directly out of the cliffs though.

A four and a half mile countryside walk taking in quaint Somerset villages on the way. Start from The Cross in Nether Stowey and follow the directions on the Web site.

On the fringes of the Quantock Hills, Nether Stowey is a village where rural community spirit is alive and well – perhaps the fact that three busy pubs still thrive here is testament to this. The most famous former resident of Nether Stowey is the legendary poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge; his passion for walking the hills and valleys of this beautiful countryside is commemorated in the Coleridge Way, a magnificent 36 mile trail that crosses the Quantocks on its way to Exmoor.

Brilliant
We did the garden on our final day complete with 2 small dogs. It’s well worth the visit but the attraction is the garden not the house. The formal gardens are beautiful as you would expect from a Gertrude Jelyll design. The upper garden is quite steep but there are plenty of resting places.

Worth a visit
The gardens take about 2 hours to do them justice. It’s really all about the gardens. The house is a gallery and second hand book shop. The formal gardens are Gertrude Jekyll designed so are of importance. They are quite special. Lots of places to sit and admire. The orangery by Lutyens is also quite magnificent. The gardens up the valley are very scenic but they are a bit of a climb for the final 2 sections. It’s dog friendly everywhere.

Quite simply stunning , superb gardens and house . A beautiful location with superb views. The coffee shop is well worth a visit and the restaurant if you have more time .
All the staff were very friendly and gave an excellent impression.
This is exactly the way to manage these houses . Take note National Trust at Montacute . I know which house we shall return to .
This 18th century former coaching house is well situated between the Quantocks and Exmoor National Park. If you are out and about for day pop in for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

What an amazing pub!
We were staying locally so visited the pub on several occasions. Lovely decor, great atmosphere and amazing food. Have to say a special thank you to Lucy for the wonderful (and entertaining) service she gave when we visited for dinner on the evening of my partners 60th birthday. She made our evening!

Great community pub

Great local pub in Halse
Good atmosphere in this pub, with the locals. Good pub food, reasonably priced.
Situated in the fabulous Quantock Hills, famous for its great walks and cycling, this is a great place to visit for real ales and good food. Children and dogs are very welcome and there's even a special dog menu.

Left disappointed 😗
We were really looking forward to our evening meal at this pretty inn but unfortunately we were left disappointed.
It started well when we arrived , shown to our tables , drinks order taken and menu given for us to choose.
We were the only ones in inn at this point so we were surprised that it took over 20 minutes for them to take our order even though we said we were ready to order!
Once our order was taken (again still only the ones in there) it took over another 30 minutes for a burger and a curry to arrive!
When it did we weren’t asked if we needed any condiments or sauces and had to attract one of the staff to get our extras.
Other people arrived and it was obvious how much quicker they were to get served, even when we were eating (food was ok) no one asked if everything was ok , but again noticed how only certain staff did this.
On leaving we overheard that the chef was late in and that was probably the reason for the delay in taking our order. It would just have been polite to inform us of this fact.
So this is our reason for being left disappointed and hence the 2 star rating.
A pretty18th century inn strategically placed on the old turnpike road on the edge of the village. Call in for lunch or dinner with a seasonally changing menu and specials. Children are welcome and ample parking is available.

Lovely meal
We had dinner here on a Saturday evening. We had pre booked. Quick service and lovely meal. Recommend the fish and chips, sticky toffee pudding and the salted caramel sundae!

Sunday Lunch
Had Sunday lunch on 4th June. Food delivered quickly and was very good. Seems to be a good choice on the menu and staff very pleasant. Good parking and easily accessible from Taunton. Would definitely pay a second visit.
A village pub not far from Taunton, the Owners bring their experience of living in South Africa to the menu, as well as local produce. Proud winners of the Somerset Life Magazine award for 'Best Country Pub 2012'.

Great Italian
This is a lovely find. The staff are very friendly and dogs are allowed in certain sections. It’s busy in the evenings, less so for lunch. We really enjoyed the food. Service was tip top
