Also nearby

A National Trust nature reserve, this three-mile curve of sand is home to many breeds of rare bird. Voted the UK's 4th top beach by Which? Magazine - though locals would probably place it higher. Studland Bay is also famous for its nudist section at Knoll Bay, the National Trust's only designated naturist beach. You will find safe shallow waters here and National Trust members can park for free.

Gets pretty busy at peak times, but it's a great place all year round - as sandy as the Bournemouth beaches but totally sheltered from the prevailing south westerly breezes. National Trust Membesr park for free. Use the road from Corfe or chain ferry from Sandbanks.

Mudeford Sandbank Beach forms a natural divide between the harbour and the sea. Offering stunning 365 degree views, every angle of this beach is photo-worthy. Well known for its sought after beach huts, Mudeford Sandbank Beach has no direct road access but is accessible either on foot or via the land train or local ferry. There are plenty of facilities nearby.

Friars Cliff's sand and shingle beach stretches as far as the eye can see. Lined with pretty beach huts and affording beautiful views of the Isle of Wight and Christchurch Bay, this award-winning beach is a real family favourite. With a clifftop nature reserve a short walk away and a cafe serving delicious food, there is plenty to be happy about.

A nature reserve in Christchurch Harbour is the stunning location of these land and waters-based sports and activities.

The original station was transformed into a restaurant in 2014 and is now open for lunch and dinner throughout the year. This is a popular spot for walkers and cyclists and dogs are made very welcome. Give them a call for opening times before you go as they don't open every day during off season months.

Fantastic meal and a nice location for a bit of birdwatching

We had some great burgers and a delicious roast duck leg with a savoury waffle (loved the sauce too!) What a great location! Shame it was too cold for us to explore the wetlands and foreshore, however still managed to spot a few interesting birds on the way back to the town centre. Dogs are welcome too, which is a bonus, and they can even sample some "doggy treats"
