TwinLocated in a National Landscape (formerly known as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) this former coastguard cottage, perched high above Cadgwith Cove with a magnificent panoramic view of the sea, is a short drive to popular bathing beaches and ready access to the South West Coast Path. The quaint cove hosts a pub/restaurant, cafe, ice cream shop and crab hut as well as a fishing beach and separate bathing area.
Named after a former fisherman occupant, the beautifully appointed cottage retains many of its original charming features including the seaward facing lookout off the main bedroom, a large kitchen/diner to host delicious meals or perhaps to plan the next day's adventures, and leads on to a bright cosy sitting-room overlooking the garden where its easy to sample and appreciate the dramatic landscape anytime of the day and year. Throw open the door and just listen to the waves or watch the seabirds as they swoop around the cove.
The main bedroom looks out over the sea and you can enjoy the view from the comfort of the king-sized bed positioned to provide clear sight of the cove. You'll find the twin bedroom at the back of the cottage alongside the family shower-room which is accessible from the landing outside both bedrooms.
Overlooking the cove with clear sight of the sea is the enclosed south facing garden. A great place for children to play and to enjoy the sunshine and sea air whilst parents can chill out and enjoy refreshments on the patio. There is also a small decked area with seating at the bottom of the garden if its solitude you crave.
You'll find Lofty's Cottage at the top of a secluded lane serving six cottages. It's accessed through a private courtyard, with two seats which are great for catching the last embers of the day perhaps with a glass of wine.
Cadgwith is one of the prettiest villages on the Lizard with its thatched cottages, craggy coves and great walks. Fishing boats still operate from the cove with boats launched and recovered by a chain winch which pulls the craft across the beach just as they have been doing for more than a hundred years.
The Cadgwith Cove Pub/Restaurant, about 400 yards from the cottage, has musical evenings where locals sing and play instruments to a nautical theme. If you like real ale this is the place to be, sitting inside or out enjoying the atmosphere. There are no street lights in Cadgwith so the stars are splendidly visible on a clear night.
For walkers theSouth West Coast Path crosses the cove so you can head East or West for dramatic and spectacular views with interesting locations on route e.g. the old serpentine mines, lifeboat station, pretty Church Cove and Lizard Village itself.
Lofty's Cottage therefore makes an ideal base to explore the whole Lizard Peninsula and beyond.
