The Old Farmhouse is ideally located in the delightful moors-edge market town of Pickering, ideally located to savour all the delights that North Yorkshire has to offer. Start your exploring in Pickering itself. The 13th Century castle boasts, high ramparts, dungeons and amazing views. Move on to the North Yorkshire Steam Railway which runs from Pickering to Whitby through the moors and visits quaint stations along the way. Why not enjoy dinner or afternoon tea on the train but remember to book early.

Pickering centre is only a five minute walk away with its individual shops, cafes and restaurants offering fine dining, local dishes and of course, fish and chips. Take a stroll around the Monday market or indulge in hand-made chocolates or ice cream on a sunny day. Close by, Thornton Le Dale is a truly picturesque village with a stream running through the centre and perfect for photography. It is the home to Mathewson's of TVs 'Bangers and Cash' fame and sits on the edge of the North York Moors with Dalby Forest on its doorstep, where you can walk one of the UK's National Trails, hire electric cycles, Go Ape or just enjoy nature.

Helmsley is a popular town with a market square, a host of restaurants, coffee shops and boutique-style shops, add in the Walled Garden, Helmsley Castle and the National Birds of Prey Centre and you have a full day out sorted. If the coast beckons, then take the scenic drive over the moors to Whitby, home of the iconic Whitby Abbey and a traditional fishing village with a seaside twist. Venture further up and down the coastline to see Sandsend, Staithes and the smugglers haunt of Robin Hood's Bay.
