Bunk-bedsBursting with charm and character, this Grade II Listed terraced cottage is a terrific getaway for families, couples, walkers and dog lovers wanting to explore this enchanting part of the north Cornish coast, whatever the season.
Set towards the top of the picturesque village of Boscastle, wile away your days exploring beautiful countryside and on coastal rambles, having fun-filled beach days, indulging in culinary delights, discovering fishing villages and towns or simply living like a local as you immerse yourself into village life.
Step over the threshold and the warmest of welcome awaits. With its jewel coloured furnishings and large sash windows, the sitting-room exudes a sense of luxury, inviting you to cosy up in front of the wood-burning stove. It's the place to curl up on the sofa whilst you lose yourself in the pages of a good book courtesy of the well-stocked shelves, watch a holiday film, play family board games or simply have a good old natter together. A narrow staircase leads you down to the charming kitchen/dining-room set on the lower ground floor. This is place for the designated chef to create their culinary masterpieces served up at the dining-table or step out through the stable-door to the terrace and enjoy meals al fresco.
Time for bed and you'll find the three bedrooms all on the first floor. The bunk-bedded room will simply delight younger members of the group and king-size beds await in the other two rooms, one having glorious views out across to Forrabury Church and the sea beyond.
With its tiny harbour, rows of pretty cottages and dramatic coastline, Boscastle makes for a great escape, whatever the season. Head down the hill to browse the shops and galleries perhaps picking up a piece of Boscastle pottery as a souvenir to take back home with you. Treat yourself to a luscious ice cream from the little parlour, takeaway fish and chips or head out to the other side of the village to Boscastle Farm Shop and Cafe - which comes highly recommended for fabulous food and stunning views. With such a great choice of places to eat out, including the Napoleon pub which is literally just down the road from Hartland Cottage, take things at an easier pace and let others cook for you.
To help you work up an appetite, this area is blessed with great walks, whether along the coastal path, across open countryside or through wooded river valleys. Take a trip to Tintagel to visit The Old Post Office (National Trust) or the legendary home of King Arthur, Tintagel Castle (English Heritage) and on the way back call by Tintagel brewery to try some local ale.
Surf's up at Trebarwith Strand and beachside picnics and rock pooling are the order of the day at Crackington Haven. A little further down the coast, Port Isaac, home to The Fisherman's Friends, Nathan Outlaw and TV's Doc Martin, is well worth a visit, and for the green-fingered amongst you the gardens and estates at Pencarrow and Lanhydrock are a must.
