Come away to Yorkshire and experience the authentic, rustic charm of an original Yorkshire stone cottage. Nettlebed is nestled on the hillside with amazing views over Swaledale and well worth the drive through the farm gates and up the steep twisted track to the house.

Once inside, the original stone floor, beamed ceilings and real fire in the range, makes it easy to imagine the first owners of the cottage cooking and baking on this beautiful, blackened range. This lovely sitting-room is a great place to relax after a long day on the hills, either enjoy your favourite show on TV, read a good book, you can even tickle the ivories on the piano, or you could just admire the fascinating mix of eclectic artwork dotted around the walls.

Through the latch door and up one stone step you'll find the kitchen/diner with its bespoke wooden units and worktop. After sharing a meal of fine Yorkshire fayre, you may want to forego the dishwasher and spend time washing up, just to gaze out at the amazing view.

When evening comes around, climb the steep and deep stone staircase to the bedrooms, each with rough-hewn walls and deep windowsills. Choose one of the three country style bedrooms, each with its own fantastic view. The sheep outside are there to count if you can't sleep, or just enjoy the geometry of the dry-stone walls surrounding the fields.

The outside of Nettlebed is a joy to behold with sweeping, far reaching views down the dale towards Reeth. Watch the river Swale meander through the lush green meadows and maybe even spot a deer or a barn owl. In the evening you can marvel at the clear, night skies, dotted with bright sparkling stars and see the Milky Way rise overhead.

Swaledale is a fantastic area of the Yorkshire Dales National Park for those who love the outdoors, getting close to nature or just for those who love to visit the quaint little villages, each with its own tea room. Nearby Gunnerside boasts a tea shop and a pub, while further away Reeth has a selection of small stores and a choice of places to share a meal. If you bring your bike try out the Dales Bike Centre, where you can have your bike serviced while enjoying a slice of home-made cake. For walkers, there are glorious walks nearby, each with its own magnificent view.

A short drive from Nettlebed, taking Buttertubs Pass, is the town of Hawes, famous for the location of Wensleydale Creamery. Take a tour and taste the cheese where it is made. Unfortunately Wallace and Gromit will not be there! Hawes is also a centre for walking with the Pennine Way passing through.

Nearby you can see Hardraw Force, England's highest unbroken waterfall at 100 feet. Not only is the highest waterfall nearby but you can also pay a visit to the 17th Century Tan Hill Inn, the highest pub in England. For more waterfalls try Aysgarth Falls where occasionally salmon can be seen leaping in autumn.

History plays its part in the area with Middleham Castle, home of Richard III, or Bolton Castle where Mary Queen of Scots was held prisoner before escaping and making her way towards Leyburn, losing her shawl along the way. The cliff edge running west of Leyburn is called The Shawl and is a well known area for easy walks and excellent views. Leyburn itself is Wensleydale's largest market town, with a weekly market on a Friday.
