The annual Abergavenny Food Festival is worth a visit (20 and 21 September 2025). Choose one of the gorgeous gastro pubs, ancient inns, country pubs and recommended restaurants in this lovely town. The pretty town of Usk and its castle are nearby; take lunch in The Nags Head or in nearby Halo in Crickhowell, a picturesque town nestling in the Usk Valley, lying to the south of the Black Mountains. For the adventurous, the eastern range of Brecon Beacons National Park has some of the finest walking and mountaineering terrain in Britain, including Pen-y Fan.
The enchanting, timeless town of Brecon, with its narrow streets, lined with Georgian and Jacobian shopfronts is approximately 45 minutes away. Tucked away on the Welsh border, surrounded by the Malvern Hills and the Brecon Beacons, is the relaxed market town of Hereford. Visit the Cathedral, galleries, museums or enjoy a day at the races.
