This cottage has fantastic views over fields of sheep and the tidal estuary of the Kyle of Durness. Set in its own tranquil garden, surrounded by dry-stone dykes (walls), the large lawned-area and the field behind are great for children and dogs to burn off excess energy.

Entry to the cottage is through the back door by the parking-area and takes you directly into the utility-room. Here you will find the washing machine and a bench ideal for removing your boots after a day walking on the hills or on the nearby beaches. Off the utility-area is a useful shower-room with WC and wash-basin. The well-equipped galley kitchen, complete with range cooker, is a great place to pack a picnic for a day out on the beach. Enter the sitting/dining-room with a large window looking out over the Kyle. The comfy sofa and open fire are ideal for a cosy evening relaxing in front of the TV or to gather around the table and plan tomorrow's adventures. The bedrooms and a second shower-room lead off the inner hallway. One large double has lovely views over the water. The two singles will happily accommodate a small family or friends.

If you need supplies, we can highly recommend the locally owned Spar Grocery in Durness, a short drive away. This village shop is well stocked to provide everything you could possibly need or desire, from truffle mayonnaise to speciality pastas. The shop also delivers fresh meat and fish, and orders can be placed prior to arrival. Fresh oysters can be purchased from the oyster farm located in the Kyle. A visit to 'Cocoa Mountain', a gourmet chocolate shop and cafe, is usually a must for the younger generation.

Kyleview is located at the start of the Cape Wrath Experience and is a truly rural escape. This really is a little gem you will want to return to year after year!

To the east of the Kyle, in the Durness area, there are many beautiful and uncrowded beaches and coves to visit. The limestone trout lochs of Durness, immediately behind Kyleview, are famous in the fishing world. Licences to fish these and the Kyle for sea trout and salmon are easily obtained and fishing from the banks of the hill lochs, provided they have not been stocked, is free.

In Durness itself, the Craft Village is worth visiting to see the various small craft shops. Balnakeil House and beach and the Golf Club are a little further down the same road. Sango Mhor and Sango Beg have beautiful beaches of golden sand with crashing waves. Smoo Cave is a dramatic and spectacular sea cave set into limestone cliffs which you can enter by boat or by the path at low tide. The last beach before turning down the west side of Loch Eriboll, has a zip wire for the entertainment of the intrepid.

The Danish ceramist, Lotte Glob, has created an amazing showroom and garden at Laid village, Loch Eriboll is the only mainland sea loch in northern Scotland and is stunningly beautiful. This history of this loch goes back to Viking times 1,500 years ago. The islands of Orkney, which lie approximately 70 to 80 miles to the east of Durness, are visible on a clear day.

Cape Wrath Lighthouse, the furthest north west point on the UK mainland, can be visited by boat across the Kyle, which starts from a pier a few hundred yards from Kyleview, then a slow drive in a minibus down the old road. This trip passes many beautiful places and there is much Highland wildlife to be seen; well worth a visit. The Scottish 'right to roam' means the hills all around are free to walkers, provided they respect the local farming activities. This right applies here and on the mainland side of the Kyle. There are also many formal walking and cycling trails on the mainland side.

If you are lucky you may see golden and sea eagles, puffins, oystercatchers, otters and many other small, migrant birds. On clear frosty nights in the autumn, winter and spring, there is every chance you will see the Northern Lights from the doorstep, how memorable would that be!
