TwinSet in a secluded apple orchard on the banks of the river Wye, The Cider Camp is a summer escape straight out of a storybook. Tucked away on the Byford estate, you have the whole camp to yourself, so you're free to stargaze and wild swim in total peace and quiet.
Upon arriving at the estate, you'll be greeted at a meeting point, guided down to the camp and given a brief tour. Completely solar powered, off-grid and WiFi-free, The Cider Camp is a bucolic retreat from the busyness and noise of modern life. Still should you have any questions or concerns, someone will be available to contact throughout your stay.
Perfect for friends and families alike, you'll have the choice to sleep in either the luxurious five metre bell tent, furnished with two single beds and vintage decor, or the beautifully restored oak shepherd's hut. Full of charm and character, this houses a wood-burning stove, small dining-area and a double bed. There are two additional single beds, ideal for younger guests keen to sleep under the same roof as their parents (the two single beds can be made up upon request and are only suitable for children). If you require these beds to be made up, please request this when booking.
For mealtimes, there's the rustic wooden field kitchen. Completely under cover and protected from the elements, this hut is supplied with a gas hob, solar powered fridge and earthenware chiminea. Beautifully simple this is a gorgeous spot to gather together whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We can just imagine sipping a coffee here, as the world wakes up (or winds down) and looking out over the surrounding fields.
On the other side of the camp, you'll find the bathroom. A pastoral wooden structure complete with toilet, open air shower and wash area. Here you can start your day with a refreshing rinse or end it with a magical shower beneath the stars.
Outside there's private access to the riverbank. Here you can go for a paddle or a swim. And there's also space beneath the trees to lie back and enjoy a good book, listening to the birdsong and babble of the brook. Back at the camp there's a fire-pit, perfect for al fresco cooking as well as evenings toasting marshmallows and telling ghost stories round the campfire.
If you want to take your adventure elsewhere, there are a number of walks that can be explore from the camp. The area is filled with pretty villages, country pubs and historical sites such as Wigmore Castle, the Weir Garden and Richards Castle. Further afield you have the city of Hereford, known for its beautiful architecture and Wye Bridge. Here you can peruse their independent shops, walk or canoe along the river and enjoy the Hereford City Museum and Art Gallery, Hereford Cathedral and The Cider Museum. There's plenty of cider tasting tours for you to partake in as well as a great selection of eateries. A short drive will take you to Hay on Wye. Famous for its prolific book festival and naturally home to an array of great bookshops. A slightly longer drive will take you to the Brecon Beacons National Park or the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Known for their stunning scenery and miles of rambling terrain, why not pack up a picnic and make a day of it. We know you'll be looking back on those photos for years to come.
